A little of how I got started on Sigs...

I took a NRA basic pistol course with my girlfriend, and the guy brought just about everything out. The two guns I liked shooting the most were his 1911 and P226 Navy. I was much more accurate with the Navy though. He laughed and said, "I think we have a Sig guy!"

Well I got engaged a couple of months later and my fiance bought me a P226R Navy as a present. I absolutely love it. I did action shooting at the local range for a while, and while I could shoot others pistols decently, I was always the best with my Sig. It has been very reliable so far, and just about everyone that tries it likes it.

However, now I have a problem. I'd like to expand my collection, and its hard to justify dropping another $700-1000 when I could get some other interesting options for a few hundred less.

Of course, I can't afford any of the cheaper options right now anyways, so I guess it doesn't make a difference! :p

So my overall feel on them, is they're great pistols. Accurate, reliable, and well made. However I wish they were just a little less money.

I own a 226... old german style. Never jammed once, shoots great, and is my carry gun. Yea..... I guess Im one of the lucky ones too haha.

i own a sig p-229 and its one of the finest pistols i have ever had in my hands[ in my opinion anyway] i want to get one in a 40 cal. i think that will fit me even better.

cwby3310,

In my opinion you should go with the p229R in .40 S&W it's a nice piece of work, but once again this is solely my opinion

1BLINDREF's pics of his 229 with the CTC lasergrips have sold me on my next purchase. Darn, those grips are expensive!

I want some for my 226, too. that's over $500 in grips... I dunno if I can justify that to myself.

Learned to shoot on a Sig P226 9mm so I've always been fond of the Sig Sauer line. Own a West German P220 and recently reinvigorated my interested in Sig Sauer, so I went out and found a West German P226 9mm and a P229 .40. Both are off being hard chromed right now.

Sig Sauer pistols have always pointed well for me, and I have admired the quality in their older pistols. While I'm not sure how quality with the newer pistols is, I have been impressed with what I've seen and will always own these three Sigs from here on out. I made the mistake of selling a P226 last summer which I now regret. I now know what I like and want to maintain my collection with the pistols I truly enjoy and love to shoot.

It will shoot, feel, the exact same as your P229 9mm as does my P229 40cal shoots 180gr JHP exactly like my P229 9mm with 135gr JHP's

I'm still amazed every-time I shoot them both.

And, as far as the cost of Crimson Trace laser grips for one's P229, they are worth every dollar, as my P229 9mm has the CT grips and it is my Night stand, HD/SD gun. I can only tell ya that to be able to point to aim, lase and blase, with both eyes open and hit where that red dot is every time, really brings about a new definition of Situational Awareness at night, with the ability to only squeeze one of the buttons on either side, in a natural perfect 2-hand grip, or one hand shots, just long enough to get a shot or 2 off, and then release the pressure and the light goes off, as not to leave a long light trail back to yourself for the BG/s to see long enough to hone in on ya..

And my grips, and gun, are a little over 1yr old, and I'm guessing, but I'd bet between FMJ and JHP use with them on, some 300 rounds, at least, and the batteries are still as good as the first day and use with them.. These grips, and the system, which you can leave them ON, but not in use, will NOT wear down the batteries, as advertised, and they deliver .. min 4-5 hrs TT, before they start to go.

I have a rail mounted Laser Max for my Beretta Px4, and I've gone thru 3 sets of batteries (in the last year) with that laser and FAR less rounds fired, so I can tell you that one would know when the batteries are starting to get weak and that is not the case with my CT laser grips on the original batteries as I type.

Sorry, I can't take credit for that P229.
That sweet little rig belongs to Lonestar49 (but there is room in the safe :p )

My first .45acp was a then new Sig 220 American release in 1987. I still have it and it feeds ANYTHING I stuff through it. I called upon it one dark and lonely night to defend my family - no shots fired thankfully - and again CCW after the Earthquake of 89 as I drove my wife to her hospital and stood guard, so based on this, I will never sell it.

That said, it doesn't group worth a damn. Moment of bad guy is all I can get out of it, but that's good enough for it's function - home defense.

I took Gunsite and developed a taste for the 1911, so I tend to shoot my 5" CDP II and truth be told, if I was to carry, I'd carry the Kimber, but I do appreciate the Sig.

My P-guns are fine examples of the DA-SA breed.
Depending on your application, I would recommend a P228 if you could find one, or a P226.

Their 1911 knockoffs seem to be of better quality now than they started out, it took them a couple of years of complaints and "customer service" to figure out how to build a mutation of a 90 year old design.

1. I couldn't agree more, as my 3 IN use Sigs, have "proven themselves" both in reliability and dependability with some 5000 rounds total between them without one failure.. just 100%, and that in my ~ Book of Friends ~ is why I will never part with them as well..

2. Same deal, with the Hogue textured wood grips and the Hogue slip-on fingered sleeve over those grips, on my P220 American, I could not get comfy (a bit too wide) and shoot groups, so I took off the wood grips (for sale) and put on a Hogue full fingered set of grips, very thin btw, and now I can shoot a lot better, but groupings are still not tight.. SO, I decided to just point to aim, both eyes open and fire, first at 16ft, then out to some 30ft..

:what: and to my amazement, I was hitting COM and making holes that just got bigger.. o 0 O

Got to say, the gun, just pointed, shoots tight groups, and I can accept that.. lol

Ps.. was it this picture of the referral of the P229 CT 9mm?

Oops.. wrong picture.. lol

Back in the mid 1990's I had a P226. Loved it. Shot like butta. Shot everything I fed it, including reloads. And these were the reloads I was doing when I was first learning to reload so I'm sure there was a lot of funky rounds in there. Shot lead bullets too, by the way.

Sold it.

I'm a dummy.

Hey lonestar49 if you want to quote someone like this

Oops.. wrong picture.. lol

There is a button for that on the quick reply and Advanced windows. It looks like a comic book caption next to the ABC Check-mark button (Spell Check Button).

All you have to do is hit that button and then paste whatever you want to quote in between the "
"

Also use it mulitiple time for mulitiple quotes it helps out so much and is way faster for you then the way you are doing it.

Back on topic. I have been eyeballing the hell outta the p250 here that's a full size .45 and I can't wait till they start making it and get all the kinks outta it. It will be one of my next firearms.

Back to the OP, I have two sigs now and have nothing bad to say about them. I got the P225 since it was cheap to try it out. I was impressed and had to pick up the P220 since it is basically the same in .45. Both have not failed me at all and have eaten everything I have fed them.

I was considering getting a Ruger SR9, but I think I will get a P250 instead. It looks like the MSRP for a P250 is cheaper than the P229/P220 pistols. We'll see.

Lonestar49 that might insinuate that a glock will kaboom but this is my thread and I think that animation is cool. PLEASE KEEP THAT ON THIS THREAD.

BTW I am NOT anti Glock I just like the clip he posted especially because of the part that came outta terminator 2 (The girl holding the fence (SARAH CONNER) igniting on fire from the nuke. That part always scared the crap outta me when I was 7 or 8 y/o

A 220 ST (Elite?) is the next auto I want. (For those of you keeping track at home I have many lists, so If one day I say SIG and the next .38 snubby, its all in my master plan...darn the ADD!!! ;)) I held a 220 ST at the gun shop last week and fell in love! I'm thinking of ordering my MS VMII for it now so by Dec when I get it the holster will be ready. :)

SIG likes it wet, Go SIG!

RFB

P.S. That Glock thing is hilarious, and not because its glock, but because its ridiculous...I also like in cartoons when the slinky goes down one stair then catches fire on its own. :D

I don't like them. I've never owned one. I rented one (a 9mm, dont know what model) @ a local range and it misfed 1 in 7 times through a box of 100 rounds. The guy at the counter said I was limp wristing it. Maybe, but the G19 I rented next ate 100 rounds no problem. When I recently purchased my CZ82 the sales clerk made an attempt to sell me a P229 instead, and it was only 89 dollars more. I love my 82. no malfunctions so far (350 rounds) and I liked the ergonomics better than those of the Sig. I do think Sig's 1911's are beautiful, never shot one though.

HAHAHA!!!! that graphic is hilarious! and i really do like the glock pistols.

On the subject of sigs. i like em. i own one. a p 226 in .40 sw. it is accurate, and fits me pretty well. i like the tennifer finish on the glock pistols better than the Sig finish. Nitron is it? any way, i like em. accurate, reliable, well made, and easy on the eyes (at least imho.)

I used to be a huge Sig fan. I have had or still have tons of them.

Unfortunately they are not the company they used to be. They are not the old German company that produced the classic P series guns. Instead they are a mix of Kimber execs running a new gun company Sig Sauer which is leveraging the older German made P series products. The Kimberazation of Sig is sad to see. It makes be sad to see it change for the worse.

I am not too sure about this last statement for I am only 25y/o and really haven't in my time known about Sig until the ripe age of 20 when I was sent to Iraq. It is there that I started to learn about the sompany back when it was still called SigArms. I am positive that this is what you are talking about rellascout. Back then from what I have heard is that SIG was top notch, not that I am saying it's not, but since the merger of Sig and Sauer I have heard alot of how it's going down the tubes (speculated by onliners) *SIGH* again you just can't please 'em all can ya???

SigArms is Sig Sauer now. They simply changed the name recently. SigArms has existed since about 1985 when they were in Tysons Corner, VA. They were a quality company as Sigarms up until about 2004 or so when they started to be a manufacturer versus and importer of Sig Pistols.

The new company is now run by the gentleman who ran Kimber a few years ago. You might remember that. Kimber went from a very good small company making nice 1911s to a massive producer of average 1911 pistols. Customer service and product quality suffered as they focused on sales not the product itself.

Lets face it that is what Sig is doing now. If you look at the product offering changes over the last few years there are a lot of bells and whistle being added to the classic pistols. I mean for Gods sake there are beavertails on P series Sigs now.

Classic Sig P220:

Sig220.lg.jpg

New Sig P220 Elite:

220EliteBlkLeft.jpg

Many of these new products have had issues as soon as they hit the market. The GSR, Misquito, 556 rifle and current P220 are all examples.

The GSR had well known teething problems. I own one and love it but do not dicount the fact that they were and still are some what it or miss. The new Sig offering are very ornate. They are a stark contrast from the older P series pistols that they built their reputation on.

The mosquito is made by a airsoft gun company made out of a Zinc slide and will not feed anything but the most expensive 22LR ammo out there. Also the trigger sucks. It feels like well and airsoft pistol. Where do I load the BBs?

The 556 rifle has been a failure. Many of the most avid Sig fans are disappointed. Same price point but no iron sights. When the Iron sights came out they were crap not Swiss dopplers that people wanted. The front light and foregrip they are selling looks like it was made in China, which it was by an outsourced vendor. If you upgrade to the $2000 SWAT rilfe you get a $75 C-more sight. I cannot believe Sig put a POS C-more on gas piston rifle. What a joke. Not only that if you were lucky enough to get an early one you got an unintentional tutone rifle with a canted rail so when you mount your optics of choice you still can't shoot straight.

The P220 has well know extractor issues. These have been occurring since they got rid of all the carbon steel slides and replaced them with milled stainless steel. FTF and FTE are now common problems associated with the P220. The majority are good pistols but if you are putting out thousands a month and about 5% have issues that's lot of problems for someone who claims "HELL AND BACK RELIABLILTY."

Again i am not a troll or Sig basher. I have owned and own more Sig pistols than most people but do not full yourself. This is not your fathers Sig.
