Sig P220 or P227? Hmmm....

Can you not have both? Perhaps one now and another somewhere down the road?

If there can be only one, which is more useful to you? I owned a P220 years ago and I think it would certainly be easier to shoot than the P227, but I have no direct reference.

I might go for the P227 myself as it is more functional (carry vs range use). That said, I occasionally carry a 3rd Gen Smith, so what do I know?

Given that the P220 is a single stack mag design and the P227 is a double stack, I would go with the one that felt best in my hands. Had a Browning BDA (a.k.a. P220), many years ago and it worked great for me, even with my smaller size hands. Haven't checked out the P227 to see how ergonomic the gun is but if it's like my P229 then I would be good to go with it as well.

Looking at both in a Nitron Carry frame they look identical. I'm guessing the Legion us much nicer but the price is higher too.

If I had the money and had to choose one it would be the P-227 because it's a newer design but I have never had both side by side to really know. Then again the single stack mag of the P-220 might be a more comfortable carry.

I checked out both and went home with a P220. No handgun that I've held fits my hand better than a P220. Hold them both and see which one feels better and buy that.

I wanted to like the P227, but I hate the E2 grip on new SIGs. Bought a police surplus P220 instead for half the price of a new one.

As the foregoing posts suggest, between the two (Models 220 vs 227), for a lot of folks, how a pistol handles and feels in an individual's hand has a lot to do with which one is "best" for that person. I used to own a Model 220 and liked it. Later, I handled a Model 227 and positively loved it. I much prefer the E2 grip and, as it happens, the grip on the 227 is the same as the one on my Model 226 with the E2 grip. Suffice to say that I sold the Model 220 and replaced it with the Model 227. The extra capacity of the double-stack magazine on the Model 227 was just icing on the cake.
In deciding between the two, you really have to handle both to determine which one is the best fit for you.

I much prefer the E2 grip and, as it happens, the grip on the 227 is the same as the one on my Model 226 with the E2 grip.

As much as I liked the grip shape of both the P226 and P228 I had years ago, I find the E2 grip on my P229 to be more ergonomic and comfortable in my hands.

i had a 227 .it was an accurate gun but i couldn't consistently shoot it well even after 1 and 1/2 yrs. the grip had felt right enough in the gun shop but the gun moves in my hand shooting . realized the grip was too big and rectangular for me.
found another gun shop regular that was willing to trade his 220 for my 227. straight trade no money . his gun was 2 yrs older than mine but i probably had more rounds shot. as a bonus the 220 i ended up with had the short reset trigger.
i was very happy with the trade and i shoot this gun much better.
i dont think the extra 2 rds was a big deal over the 220 considering the grip. i jist found it too wide side to side.

As of right now, if you want a P227 Legion, you'll be waiting for some time. The current Legion series consists of the P226 DA/SA, P226 SAO, P229, and just released at Shot Show this year was the P220 DA/SA in full size and carry configurations. That said, I'm partial to the P220 over the P227.

The grip on a 227 is of decent size. I prefer it over a 220.

That said, the 220 is comfy, even when shooting a 10mm.

In a 45, I'd go with the 227.

220. IMO, 45 ACP starts getting pretty heavy and unwieldy when they start being double-stacked and holding more than 7 or 8 rounds.

A person's stature definitely plays into it. I had an FNP45. The grip was large and it held 15 rounds in the magazine.

I found it comfortable to open carry in the right holster and shooting it was a joy. Well, when it didn't jam that is.

I would think someone with larger hands would prefer the P227 and someone with smaller hands would prefer the P220.

Not that either would be uncomfortable.
