I hope that someone may be able to help me on this. I have this SIG that is my EDC; I have never had a FTF or any other reliability issues. The only problem I have are the magazines; the springs seem to get weak over time and due to their weakness fail to hold the slide open after the last round is fired. This is unnerving since I may have to rely on this weapon to protect myself or my family and I want complete reliability.

My question: since it just seems to be just a spring issue and nothing else is wrong with the follower, baseplate, etc. I should just be able to find replacement parts. Does anyone know where I may obtain these? I am having trouble even finding replacement magazines at this point (and at $40+, ouch); all I see available online are SIG factory mags, but maybe there is a better option.

BTW, these are the 12 round magazines.

Thanks for the help and suggestions!

Your mag springs should not be weakening like that. New mags are often stiff at first and quickly lighten up a bit after initial use, but they pretty much don't weaken beyond that.

I'm guessing that the slide catch may need a little attention, there may be a speck of grime in there that makes it just a little harder to move than need be.

It's also possible you might have some old lube or preservative in the magazines, which can get dirty over time and gum up the free movement of the follower. They can be disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled dry (no lube) and that might fix the problem too.

Thank you! I have an email into SIG; if I have to send it back in for service (slide catch spring) then so be it. I did clean the magazines and they are good to go so I don't think that is the issue.

Once I get in touch with Customer Service at SIG (tried calling and was on hold so long I had to hang up as my lunch break was over) I will post about my experiences.

Spoke to SIG customer service...

Well, I got a hold of SIG today; at first they wanted to send me a new recoil spring for the handgun, but after describing what was happening in greater detail, the service rep did say that it sounded like the slide catch lever spring...you called it right Onward Illusion....

So, they said to send it back and they would repair the gun per the warranty terms, although they wouldn't cover the shipping there. Oh well...I would rather have them fix the thing (I do like the gun and it is very accurate) and have peace of mind than pissing over a shipping charge.
