When will this new group at Sig learn?

Well after about 2 years of jerking us around on the 556 rifle Sig introduced what we asked for in the first place. A classic looking Sig 556 with swiss parts that was compatible with AR15 mags..... At Shoot this year they introduced the Sig classic..... Finally the rifle I was interested in!!!!! Called my dealer said put me on the list.......

Then today I read this:

More interestingly, however, was the variation between stocks on display. About half of the Classic models had what appeared to be Swiss collapsible folders, with a Swiss-sounding company name printed on the inside of the stock (*not* Wiegmann, but something else that ended with the German corporation acronym). The other half I didn't check the insides of, but they appeared to be made of a different poylmer, and had the Sig Sauer logo printed on the left side next to the release button.

Wild speculation as it may be, it appears to me that SIG imported a couple dozen of the Swiss stocks for the initial production, and now is switching over to a domestic or else lower-cost foreign (Israeli or Chinese) copy. There seemed to be a noticeable difference in stiffness between the two types of stocks; the presumably Swiss example slid in and out with much more resistance than the Sig Sauer-marked stock.

So Sig is not using the real Swiss parts but instead is going to use some piece of **** from China or Israel which is a copy of the real deal for the Sig Classic..... What a joke. This is the second big time bait and switch by Sig.... Even worse:

So I handled a bunch of the 556 Classic and 552 models today, and noticed some interesting things. For one, it appears pretty clear that the locking block is just part of the aluminum receiver; there is no steel insert to prevent wear. I see this one potentially coming back to bite SIG in the butt pretty badly in time.

What are they doing in Exter?

the SIG550/551/552/553 Series of rifles costs 2.5k for a reason..

dont expect the same for less then half the money?

Rellascout, that's not really the Sig Classic you have pictured there in your opening post. The Sig Classic does not use the traditional 551 style handguards. This is the Sig 556 Classic.....

I love my 556 and despite it not having that traditional looking stock I was able to replace the handguards on mine with traditional 551 style ones and that made a huge difference. I also ordered the Aurora 55X rear sight which is an exact replica of the traditional Sig rear rifle sight.

Overall I'm not disappointed that I got the regular 556 prior to the 556 Classic coming out. I don't like the handguards on the the Classic or the stock, I think the Magpul MOE looks better and is close enough to the traditional look. Personally I think mine in the current state it's in (even without the Magpul stock and Aurora rear sight installed yet) looks more like a traditional Sig rifle than the 556 Classic does.

Here's mine in its present state...

I care...... as should anyone who wants a real Sig rifle....

My issue is that they are showing one thing fully intending on shipping something else...

To me that is BS.... Also the Swiss stock is a known quantity... a part of unknown origin us not...

The stock is embarrassingly ugly. I mean, is it that difficult to give us the sexy 550/551 stock? Even as an optional extra; I'd pay another $50 to ensure my rifle doesn't frighten me when I open the safe.

Chinese parts, yea I would take issue with, but I don't think refering to Israeli made components as sh*t is a fair statement. Considering they have been developing rifles that see lots and lots of action in the big sandbox for years, I got a pretty good feeling they know what they are doing in the rifle department. I know I wouldn't mind being handed a Tavor no questions asked...

when is it available? by the time it becomes available, it might be too late....

What a bunch of whiners.

"oh it doesn't use this! It doesn't use that!"

You have two options:

1. But the rifle and replace the parts you disapprove of.

2. Don't buy it.

No disrespect to the actual Israeli military, but there's a lot of Israeli-made gun related stuff imported to the US that is, for all intents and purposes, cheap plastic alternatives to quality metal parts or higher end holsters, and it doesn't hold up that well to hard use compared to better quality stuff.

Part of the fun of buying an EBR is being able to customize it to your own personal liking, whether it be an AR, 556 or whatever.

Whether you buy the Sig 556 Classic or any other 556 model basically you are getting the same rifle no matter what. I wasn't entirely happy with my 556 in it's original configuration so I just bought the parts I wanted and replaced the parts I didn't, easy as that. I've owned very few EBR's that I didn't alter in some degree from the original factory configuration, like I said that's part of the fun of it.

If you really want to complain abut the 556 then complain about the POS mags they include, that bothered me:mad:

i think i will stick with the AR until this design gets a few years of use in and we get more relative feedback. its ugly as sin, but if SIG has built a better rifle, then a few years down the road ill buy one of its cheaper clones

it is the clone of a 23 year old Rifle Designed that is preaty successful around the world.
and it is a cheaper clone as well.

There is actually very little difference between the 556 and it's older siblings. The 556 is basically compatible with the 551, you can swap out parts and even combine a 556 upper with a 551 lower.

I disagree that the 556 is junk compared to the Swiss models just because it's American made.

ok, what is the deal with that gun? it looks like it takes 2 magazines, side by side. is that what i am seeing?

The Sig mags have little tabs that make the mags stack together for quick mag changes (kinda like a jungle clip for an AR but intergrated into the mag).
