Sig Sauer P220 10mm: Your impressions

I figure if I pick up a 220 I can always trade or sell it later if the 227 is released in 10mm. Or just keep it and have a nice collection.

So is your preference strictly a preference based on feel, or do you feel the SAO trigger is just vastly superior to the DA/SA trigger?

I carry P226 and M11-A1. I like the P series SA/DA triggers. I think the P220 SAO has a good trigger, better for hunting or target.

Also you said you didn't carry either of yours. I'm just curious if you've found a holster that works well at all for this gun, in either configuration.

I have carried 1911's for a while, I understand good belt and quality holster. It is just a heavy pistol. I guess I got used to carrying aluminum or polymer framed pistols

I may shoot some deer with this gun some day, but I am more interested in it for hiking in angry critter land, which I do an a fairly regular basis. I know it's heavy, but I have carried a 5" 460 magnum on the hip, and the weight doesn't bother me much. So as a defensive sidearm for some reason I feel like the DA/SA model is a better idea.

I agree, In your case the SA/DA would be a better choice. I hope this helps. Good Luck

I've had a 220 in 10mm for about 2 years now, reverse stainless DA/SA. Love it. Has not failed to shoot / chamber / fire a single shot yet, I probably have a couple of K though it. Very accurate. And the .45 mags work just fine

I gotta say I find these positive reports encouraging. I want this gun for the purposes I stated above, but I want it as a companion to a Kriss 10mm Carbine I plan to pick up in the future as well. I know picking up a Glock would be a better option because they share magazine compatibility, but I guess I just don't care. I prefer the sig. Better to have ammo compatibility than nothing.

I've got the stainless version, the gun is a kick in the butt to shoot. I got lucky and went into a shop had that one ANIB with five spare magazines, after a bit of negotiating I left with it for $950.00 all in. If the original owner fired 50 rounds I'd be surprised.

Eh, whatever. Simply seems to me that the OP was asking for opinions from those who've actually shot the 220 in 10mm (damn few of us, it seems) as perhaps compared to other platforms of this caliber. Lots of us, when vacillating over spending a grand or so on something as relatively useless as a new handgun (particularly if we don't need it to put meat on the table or to defend hearth and home) require a little validation from others that we're not totally screwing the pooch by going in the direction we've elected ... No need to make fun here.

As far as the mention of the G-word, those who've shot a lot of 10mm know that a steel-frame pistol makes the event a bit more fun than using that doggone plastic-frame stuff ...

Ummm, yeah. I sort of stated exactly that in my OP. I didn't even know how to react to bearfoot's post because it just seems irrelevant.

I'm interested in the performance of the pistol. There is nothing sexy about guns to me, or cars for that matter. Women are sexy, not pieces of metal or plastic. I may really like my hammer, but it's still a tool.

As far as Glocks go, as I've stated a hundred times in the past, they just don't interest me because they feel like crap in my hand, and are just sort of drab designs to me. They do not interest me in the least. I don't need anything they produce.

So yeah, just sort of puzzled by post #32 in general. Maybe my sense of humor is lacking these days.

I traded my colt delta elite for a sig p220 sa kryptek and never looke d back. NOW I love that 10mm round and I can shoot it well.
the P220 is one of the best Sig makes. fits the hands well. handles loads( 230 gr for 45 acp,180 gr 10mm--fmj) thesig is accurate and fun to shoot.
I would buy it again in a second

Well, I got to looking on the Sig website, and I do not see the DA/SA variant available anymore. So I jumped on Gunbroker.com and only found two sellers with them listed. So despite my promise to myself of no new guns this year, I caved. I bid the minimum on one and got it. It should be headed to my FFL, but I'm leaving the country on Wednesday and won't be able to pick it up for a week. But it's a once in a lifetime opportunity kind of trip. So you know......

for those who have shot them, I'm curious what bullet weight this gun seems to prefer. I picked up some 180 grain FMJ's for early testing, but I am most interested in 200 and 220 grain loads. Anyone know if the P220 groups really high in those bullet weights?

You know, I have only shot 180's in my SIG. I've shot the heck out of 200's in my Grand Power, but haven't tried them in the 220 yet. I'll have to rectify that.

I shoot some 180 XTPs that I load and a lot of cast 208 bullets. @ 25 yards, mine shoots the 208s about 1.25" high and 1.5" left compared to the 180 load.

Well, I picked it up yesterday and it's sweet. The trigger is a tad heavier than I care for, but I am guessing it will lighten up a bit. Once I pay some bills off, I'll be ordering some extra magazines and a holster. I already have a Holster picked out too, but it's $175 dollars.

Considering I just returned from a week in a foreign country, I think I better pay off the credit card bill before adding to it. Thanks all for the advice. It was helpful.

Oh yeah, I need to order some Underwood or Double Tap ammo too and see how it groups with heavy ammo.

That's one of the "usual suspects" I looked at when the OP asked. However, I don't know if the .45 Auto mags work with 10mm rounds. They may, but Cote doesn't list any 10mm mags available, nor does Top Gun Supply, another major player in the SIG lover's world.

I wouldn't have recommended them if I didn't have them and use them for my 220-10. They work great! And I'm cheap son of a gun too
