Welcome and thanks for the great pic!

Ala Dan -
Glad to have you here. I've seen some of your other posts and I'm glad you joined our club as well.

Congrats on the P228 - and good job on the price :what: Can't find a nice one around here for less than $500.00 What area do you live in?
Did you get a good price on it??
I was happy with the deal - just under $700.00 out the door. I've wanted a P226 in 9mm for a while, but I didn't get around to picking one up till now. If I didn't buy one at the show, I would have bought one of the two CPOs that came into the range where I shoot. They were going for around $625.00 out the door. I liked the  look and getting a new one for the extra $70. I'm going to look for the equinox wood grips to put on it (I like the fat black wood grips :D )
I saw those for sale on Gunbroker awhile back.
Do you remember how much they were going for?

I honestly don't recall how much they were going for, but I do believe more than 700. I think you did very well. I have been hoping to find a 226 in 9mm for around that price for awhile, but no such luck around here. Everything I see is two tone or one of the special models, no "plain jane" 226's (in 9mm) to be had.

I live in Columbus, OH. Vance's usually has a good supply of LEO weapons coming through. I missed the P225's for $419, but I liked this P228 alot and I felt the price was quite fair. I stripped it last night and it was very well taken care of. I was pretty shocked when I realized the date code was KD or 1993. It looks like it's had less than 1000 rounds through it, and it certainly wasn't holstered for 14 years. Dunno what the deal was, but if it shoots well I think I did good.

I will see how function is, and then maybe send to sig for the $99 tuneup/night sights. Seems like a good deal. Maybe I'll have it nitron'd, too. I might grab a few MecGar 15 round mags.

For now, though, I shoot. I wish a happy weekend, filled with SIGs, to all.

Quick Question

I was looking at the slides on a couple Sigs, and I noticed that they were stamped either "Made in W. Germany" or "Made in Germany."

But, one of my old mans Sigs has Made in #. Germany," where the pound sign appears to be a stamp overtop the "W." I am not sure why this would be.

Also, do the "W. German" Sigs hold more collector value?

Thanks for any help guys.

As a side note, I picked up a new addition to the collection. I was about to go buy a 220 Carry that I hade my heart set on, but when I got to the table where it was for sale (Valley Forge Gun Show), some other Bastage had it in his grubby mitts and was signing the paperwork  :what: :cuss: :banghead: :fire: This is not the forum for what evil thoughts were going through my head

Anyway, ended up walking away a new CZ75 Police. Sweet gun, great price, cant wait to break it in.... but.....

I feel like I just wont be complete until I pick up one of these:
http://www.sigarms.com/Products/ShowCatalogProductDetails.aspx?categoryid=6&productid=146 :what:

Anybody have one? Please let me know how sweet it is so I can force the issue and just go buy one. :p

Congrats on the 228. I've been shooting them up for the last couple years in the Army and I love it.

I just got the Sig tune up done on my personal 228, and it was well worth it. I would jump on it quick since I hear they are increasing the price to $130 + Shipping at the end of the month. Also, I slapped some Hogue finger groove grips onto mine :what: Well worth it- the feel is perfect.

Good luck with it and happy shooting to all as well. I too am off to the range. :neener:

Thanks for the tip! I'll get that process started then, it sounds like a good deal.

As for the P220 Equinox; since you wanted the P220 Carry, and are taken by the P220 Equinox, why not the P220 Carry Equinox? I have one (as posted above) and look at the groups I get with it. I'm no master, but even I have a hard time *not* creating one ragged hole with that one (up to 25 feet, most of my practice is defensive shooting practice <25 ft). It is a really nice weapon; I have already extolled the virtues of the front sight, so I'll skip talking about that again. But the Carry shoots very well, recoil is very soft, it drops back to target naturally, and it feels wonderful in the hand. The trigger is VERY nice, too, I like it better than the trigger on my P239. I'm not sure if the "Custom Shop" SIGs have a little better triggers, or it was luck of the draw (I suspect the latter as the "Custom Shop" smacks of Kimber marketing to me). Regardless, it's a natural shooter, was my first SIG, and convinced me to sell off my 1911's (except one) it's that good.

I have what are probably smaller than average hands, but I really like the grips. They are great, and also look nice. I don't see how you can go wrong with that pistol.

I'm going to shake out my P228 today. Can't wait to see what the hoopla of W German made SIGs is about ;)

Sig Pro owner for the last few years here.

While I am impressed with my Sig Pro, I have owned lower priced guns that were the equal of my Sig in most ways and were at a substantialy lower price. My former XD service 9mm comes to mind and my Ruger P95.

Having said that, I am very impressed with Sig guns overall, but I am not a Sig worshiper. They certainly have their faults (GSR 1911's) as I read on the Sig forum where I am also a member. That's why I post mostly on THR. Over at the Sig forum, many of the members take a dim view of any comments about Sig or it's service dept that are not positive.

I would own more Sig's, but I just think that they are about 25% over-priced due to the 'aura' of Sig's. Pricing is 'market forces' I know, and I don't object to that, I just won't be caught up in it.

I drool over the P220R Equinox, but I just can't bring myself to pay the big Sig price premium when I know that a Springfield Mil-Spec will do the same job for about 35% less in price.

Yes I'm frugal, cheap if you like, but I just refuse to over pay, even if it is a 'Sig'.

A happy, but frugal member of the "Sig Club".

add one more to the club

P229 .40/357
P245 (had get 2, they never should have stopped making these)
P220 in .38 Super
Trailside Competition Model 22LR

How is that Trailside, 1man? I've been trying to decide whether to buy one of those (I found a leftover NIB) or buy a Mosquito. Pluses for the Trailside is it should be a better (accuracy, at least) pistol, but the Mosquito could almost be considered training on my other SIGs.

I took the P228 to the range today. What a nice little pistol! It's a little snappier than my P239, which surprised me. It drops back on target more accurately for me, than the P239, though. Net effect is I'm a little quicker to double tap or touch multiple targets. I liked it a lot.

Now I need to decide if I'm going to have just the slide nitron'd, or both the frame and the slide since the "sale" on the maintenance package ends soon. Any suggestions?

1man -
Glad you are in. Whats that P220 like in 38 super? I never saw or shot one - must be cool. Post some pics of the family :D

I took my new addition to the range today. I put 300 rounds through it and it was a great day. Nothin like going to the range and just popping of a bunch of 9mm. I've been shooting mostly my CCWs (.40's and a S&W 642 :D ) the last couple of months and the 9mms felt like .22s. The P226 was flawless. I really like the way it feels. With 15 + 1 it seems like its never going to run out of bullets :scrutiny: :D

I showed the gun to some of the guys that work at the range. They sell alot of Sigs but they've never seen one like this one. It's almost like Sig had a bunch of Equinox slides left over and put them on a regular P226 frame. The reps from Sig are comming to my range sometime in the end of April :D . Maybe I can find out more about it from them. Will hopefully be able to squirrel away enough $ for that P220 carry SAS  (soccer season starts next week - I'll have to ref about 20 games to get one!)

I don't like Sigs plastic grips, so I'm looking for some Equinox grips or maybe a nice pair of wood Hogues to make my P226 complete. Anyone have a pair of Equinox grips that they want to sell?- Please let me know.

I know what you mean about feeling like you'll never run out of ammo in the magazine... I've been shooting 45's for so long, and then my P239 and 442, that the 14 rds of the P228 felt nutty.

Looks like you had a great day! Nice shootin', Tex :D

Thanks. I always want to do better but I was happy with the first time out with it.

That Sig SSP program $99 special ends this month. The price is going to be $129.00 starting April. The only "discount" to do the nitron job is that you save on shipping because they already have your gun :scrutiny: Shipping is $30. I think its still worth it to get new nites and springs and have it checked over by a Sig-smith. I sent two P228s and a P229 all at once and they only charged me $50 for shipping them all together. I'm thinking about sending my P220 to tripp to have it hard chromed. There was a P226 for sale on here that had it done and it looked really great (IMO).
I went back to the Valley Forge gun show today and oogled a couple of P225 german police trade ins. I saw a total of 4 of them. They were going for $400 - To $425. They felt good, but they had considerable cosmetic wear on them. I'm gonna get one someday just to round out the collection, but right now I have my sights set on that P220 carry SAS. Oh yeh - I also want an AR before the next AWB. I hope my knees last so I can ref enough games to be able to get all my "wants". (Should have gotten into Kel-Tecs insted of Sigs :neener: )

Well, since Baphomet posted my pic of my 232, I'd better join the club and post all of my Sigs. A 220 is next "in my sights."

My new P239 in .357 is my membership card.

I put some Hogue grips on it and took it to the range. Unfortunately, the Sellier & Bellot FMJ I was feeding it wasn't working at all. 10 jams on the first 15 rounds.

Is the P239 a fussy eater where brands are concerned ?

hey loplop, it's funny you mentioned Vance's. That is where I bought my sig. :)

Here is a pic of my P226 .40

SilverBullet: hopefully someone with a P239 in 357SIG can chime in. I only have experience with my P239 in 9mm, which feeds anything.

GrooveHolmes: Vance's has some good deals on occasion. They haven't been carrying SIGs in Nitron as of late, for reasons I'm not sure of. It's all two-tone or special editions, usually in 40. I actually went this weekend wanting to buy a 226 Elite in 9mm, but sadly they had none. I would have also considered the standard 226. None of those, either.

And none in 357SIG. Odd!

Frandy, you're killin' me with that 232/Nill pic.

Ah yes, who can resist a Sig?

My first gun was a Sig and I'm almost exclusively a Sig man. My girlfriend is getting her first handgun, a P226ST 9MM in about 10 days.

Over the years I've owned the P226, P220, P228, and P239. Love em all, what I currently own is in my Sig line.

Welcome to all the new members! :D Thanks for posting the pics.

Silver Bullet -

I have a P239 that I CCW in .40S&W. I have a .357sig barrel for it and have put about 150 rounds through it. I used the Speer Lawman that they sell at my range and had no problems at all with them. The bottle-neck design of the .357sig bullet should make it a very reliable feeding round. Did you try both magazines or a different one? Did you break down the gun and clean off the Sig goo out of the slide and barrel before you shot it? If not, I'd try doing those things before contacting Sig or a gunsmith. I've never had any ammo issues with any of my Sigs.
Good luck with it and let us know how you make out.

Glad you like the 226. FYI - Mecgar makes 17-rd mags for the 9mm P226; I got mine at www.topgunsupply.com ; great prices and good service.

Dirk-
Thanks for the info :D I'll check them out. Better get them while we can  I bought two extra 15 round mags at the gun show (new factory for $23.00 each :what: )
