^^ Lonestar49 - I've always felt that the gun companies should support these forums, as every time owners put up new pictures, somebody is usually going to go out and buy something new. I've thought about a P220, but I already have a 1911, and the price of shooting .45 is getting too expensive for me.

^ Man With a Gun - I don't know how a lefty would feel about the decocker, but I am sure there are some of them that will read this thread that can comment about it. I will say that it is needed, as it is the only safe way to take the gun from SA to DA mode. For example, when you load the gun and rack the slide, it's automatically in SA mode. For you to holster the weapon safely, you'll need to decock it.

Sig does make models called DAK - it's their version of a consistant pull trigger. These do not have the decocker.

For what it's worth, I think the company's new "direction" is ridiculous (e.g. Equinox, rails, Revolution, SAS, beaver tails, etc.). Do what works, and don't cheapen it by appealing to the front row.

Does this factory photo make anybody else nauseous?

Your P228 looks great wearing those Nills. Thanks for the link to MacTec. They do a great job and I believe they are one of the only Nill distributors around.

I'm right handed so I can't tell you from my personal experience about the decocker lever getting in the way, but my father was a lefty and he had no problems shooting my P220 or P228 at all. Like D-Man said, the decocker is absolutely needed for operating your Sig DA/SA safely. When you push the decocker lever down, the firing pin of the gun is blocked so the hammer can safely drop back into DA possition. Try to rent a Sig DA/SA to see if its a problen for you before you buy one. You could also look at the DAK (DAO) version of the Sigs. It's the best double action only that I've ever shot. I like it so much that the last 3 Sigs that I bought were DAKs (look at my post #385)

Nice collection :D I'm with you on some of the new models Sig is coming out with. I'm a bigger fan of the "classic" West German P series guns. They are what got me started collecting Sigs. I do however like the SAS and the DAK triggers. I guess in this day and age that we live in, Sig didn't want to be left behind when it came to styling and "glitter" that their competition is bringing out. As long as Sigs quailty and service doesn't suffer, I'm OK with the direction that they are going. I think its just a phase right now. They'll probably come out with a "classic" Sig line like S&W has in a few years after this fad fades away.

The Sig show was great. The Sig rep had every gun that Sig makes to test fire. You could buy a chance for $3.00 to win a new gun and pick any Sig that you wanted to shot including 5 rounds of ammo (regulars got a few extra rounds :D ) The 556 was the most popular choice. I got a chance to run 20 rounds through it. It was nice :evil: . The only thing that I didn't like about it was its weight. I didn't like the way it was balanced. It feels front heavy and bulky. Other than that, it was awesome.
I also shot a GSR - very sweet, and a P226 X-5, AWESOME!!
The prices of the guns were very low. The P239 SASs 9mm or .40S&W were $745.00 which got you out the door for less then $800.00. If you bought a new Sig, the rep gave you a mail in certificate for a free magazine.
I don't know how many guns were sold in the two days, but I saw alot of paperwork being filled out! :what:
 
Now I have 4 Sigs. I have 2 P226s. Love them both. Since Sig has gone all "Pimp My Gun" with their latest releases, I'm trying to scoop up some additional P226 STs as fall backs should I ever shoot out my current crop of P226s

Nope. I've got one on order. I love suppressed weapons, and I'm all over anything factory threaded that isn't the HK Tactical. The brown frame was specified in the contract, and doesn't hurt me at all. The high sights are really nice when you've got a can hanging off the muzzle blocking regular height sights. The 10 round mag? If it bugs you so much, stick an 8 in there and call it good.

Speaking as a Sig dealer, I'm really glad to see them branching out. Variety helps sell guns. I've been selling Equinoxs way out of proportion to their price. After the initial problems their 1911s have been great. The SAS in the 239 is a good seller. I personally love the Elite trigger with the beavertail.

And they all seem to still work, so I don't get how having more options cheapens the guns.

And you might find this particularly blashpemous, but the X5 absolutely rocks. I put several mags through one at our machine gun shoot a couple of weeks ago, and it was amazing. :)

Believe me, I've been trying to figure out how to justify another handgun that expensive. I thought it was silly the first time when I saw the price and played with one at SHOT. But after actually running one on some dueling trees, Texas stars, and plate racks, man, I want one bad. :p
 
I don't own a Sig but I really want one. After seeing the Firepower TV review of the Sig 226 being tortured, I can't help but stand in awe at how well the Sigs are built. The only other pistol I know of that is comparable to that is the Glock, but...the idea of a plastic pistol without a safety bothers me. :p

Anyways, I wanted to ask about the 232. I really really want one. :) Only problem is that my OCD is holding me back because it seems like it's a PPK knockoff. Is that what it is? Or is the 232 a completely different pistol? A review I read said that Sig designed it to be an "improved" PPK. I've heard a LOT of really bad things about the PPK over at thefiringline, so I'm really...weary of the PPK now.

Can someone who knows more about the 232 and the PPK tell me what relationship there is between them, and which is the "better" pistol?

I'm a dyed in the wool Sig fan, but don't let the idea of a plastic pistol without a safety bother you. The classic P series Sigs don't have safeties, and the SigPros are polymer without safeties. :p In fact safety equiped Sigs are fairly new (like my P220C SAO).

My understanding is the P230/P232 series are very similar to the PPK series. I've never fired a P230/P232, but I have fired the PPK/S. I couldn't get comfortable with the PPK/S grip (sharp edge on the backstrap); I don't expect the P232 would be any different (very similar form factors). Build quality wise I doubt there will be any complaints on the Sig.

It's a bit outside the scope of your post, but what are your plans for the P232? If you're thinking concealed carry, I would advise you to research the .380 ACP round both the PPK & P232 fire. It's generally considered to be an unreliable manstopper. FWIW

I own exactly one Sig. A P245 that I purchased in January of 2001 - three months after getting hired by my department. At the time those officers who didn't have their own handgun got a Smith and Wesson 6906. We were authorized to purchase and carry any modern high quality handgun in 9mm, 40or 45 acp.

As soon as I recieved my equipment and uniform allowance I went and purchased the P245. It fit my hand and I liked it - even more then the 220. I went through the police academy and almost seven years with that 245 riding on my hip. Never failed to qualify with it and it never failed me. I was the only officer to carry the 245. I later added the eight round magazine whne Sig came out with it and my reloads were eight round 220 mags.

Late last year the department changed and is now issuing GLOCKS to all officers. I opted for the G19 because the G21 is just to big for my hands. My 245 has been retired to my gunsafe where it sees occassional outings to the range. I'm never getting rid of it.

Now I'm considering buying a 239 in 9mm. Just because.
 
I saw a P239 SAS chambered in .357 Sig from the factory at the gun show this weekend. I think that's going to be my next sig, it does fit so nice. Too bad the one I saw had rust (!) on it, was at a pawn shop dealers table. Checked the box though, and it showed "P239SAS .357" :cool:

Yep that, or a P220 super match....or a 229 elite in .357....or a 220 elite two tone...or a 220 elite SAO....or...oh crap. I'm screwed aren't I?! :neener:

Pretty much, yeah. The first step in dealing with the disease (who would want to recover??!!) is accepting you have a problem.

Concealed carry is my biggest concern with regards to the 232/PPK. I just don't like buying a "copycat" product, hence why I was wondering what the relationship between the 232 and the PPK was.

I know the .380ACP isn't a great round, but then again a .22LR to the heart will kill you the same as a .50AE.

I just picked up a 220 Carry, all i can say is WOW :what: I think i have been converted from a Glock guy to a Sig Guy, this gun shoots like a dream, the trigger feels great, And i can't complain about the results of my first outing today:

I've owned a couple of Walthers, and do own two P230's. As far as I'm concerned, the SIG's are the better pistol. They are more comfortable in my hand and to shoot, lighter, dont bite, and have much nicer triggers.

My German made PPK was flawless, my American made PPK/S was not. It went back to the factory a number of times and always came back without the problem being solved. The rear of the slide on the Walthers are sharp and pointy, and if your not careful, will peel the skin off your hands. The SIG's are very reliable and dont bite. The Walthers are notorious for heavy DA triggers. The SIG's DA trigger is something to marvel at, and makes shooting them very easy.


If you just have to have a Walther, I'd look around for a German gun.
 
I bought my Sig in 1988. A P220 in 45 ACP stamped made in West Germany. It was my first auto. Of all my pistols (8), I am most accurate and confident with it. When I qualified for my CCW permit this was the pistol I took to shoot with.

My first .45 was a new P220 in 1995. Like you, out of all of my pistols, it's the one I'm most accurate with. I sent it to Sig for the SSP program and Nitroning on April 2nd. I'm patiently waiting for it to come home. I hope its soon, as I miss shooting it.

My P220 Carry SAS is absolutely an amazing gun. Its balanced perfectly and it seams to be the perfect weight and size for a .45acp. Every time I shoot it, I'm more impressed with it. I really like the DAK trigger.

If you are looking for a good Sig for CCW, check out the P239. Its available in 9mm,.40S&W, and .357sig . You can get it in traditional DA/SA or with the DAK (DAO) trigger. It's not much bigger then the P232, and the calibers are a much better choice for SD then a .380.

I am a SIGaholic. I have been since my first P226 I carried for 7 years with Punta Gorda PD. I have owned quite a few SIGs, but currently only own 8 of them. I have a P220, a P226, 9MM, two P229s, .357SIG & 40S&W, P239, .357SIG, two P230s, a SS and normal blue, a P2002, 9mm (one of 300), and a P245 SS (#53 of 75). I have purchased and sold a lot of SIGs in the past 20 plus years.
I am going to go thru all the pages in this forum in the next couple of days and see if I can learn anything. I will say that my hands are very small and I do have a hard time holding most SIGs in the proper hand hold, but I have learned to shoot pretty good with my short finger hold. Oh yeah almost all of my SIGs have a short trigger.
Right now I am thinking of selling some of my SIGs because I am an old man and none of my children are really interested in weapons. That is what happens when you get divorced and she raises the kids.

You have a nice collection there. It's ashame your kids aren't into shooting. Can you get them into now? Its never too late.

Mistake on guns

:) I made a mistake on my SIG-Pro it is a model SP2009-9-Special. It feature a blue stainless outling side with contast sights. Nothing too fancy, but cool. One of the guns of the month SIG put out during 2005.

My 245 is a Classic Compact Size Custom Shop P245. It features:
Limited to 75
Action enhancement by SIGARMS Custom Shop
11 degree target crown on barrel
Novak low carry 3 dot system
SIGARMS custom shop logo on slide
Individuall numbered "01 of 75" etc.
one 6 round magazine and one 8 round extended grip magazine
Lockable aluminum carry case
Certificate of Authenticity
Finish of nickel TPFE
It was also one of the guns of the month SIG put out in 2005.

Mine is #53 of 75. I have not shot it yet, but I think I will start carrying it soon. I am not sure yet.
