Nice looking family, 1blindref! :what:

I sent my P226 and my P229 slide off yesterday to Tripp Research for hard chroming before he stops come June. Going to have the slide and controls hard chromed on the P226, and the slide hard chromed with night sights installed on my P229. Bad thing? Four weeks without my Sigs.

Doug,

Trust me, I thought about it! It's okay, though. Worth the wait. The only reason I sent them both in simultaneously was to get them done before he gets too many orders and no longer accepts new requests. According to his website, when June rolls around they're done with the refinishing for good, so I assume his workload's about to increase as more people find out about his cessation of refinishing services.

Tripp does some beautiful work. I hope you took a bunch of "before" pictures before you sent them off.
I hope the four weeks goes by fast for you.
I'm looking forward to seeing some pictures!

Does anyone know where I can find an M3 or M7 style style shoulder holster that the 229 will fit in? I have an M7 now; my 1911s fit in it fine, but the 229 is too thick (and a little short).
Regards,
Greg

Sig P229 Equinox

Went to a buddy of mines shop yesterday as he always has the coolest antiques and old out of production guns, I was specifically looking for a Marlin Camp Carbine in .45 (1911 mags:D). I told him I was thinking about replacing the berretta that I got after the brother shanghaid my 229 with another 229 in .357Sig. He starts grinning and tells me he has my next toy.

He pulls out a Sig Case and inside it's a 229Equinox in .40 WITH a factory .357Sig Barrel. He is asking $900 for the whole kitten kaboodle. I know it's a great $$$ deal as the whole package is probably about 1300 bucks worth.

I've never been attracted to the equinox but it's a 229. For those with an equinox is it comparable to your 229? Are there any differences besides finish and the sights? Thoughts?

Congrats

It shouldn't be "any different" than most any other Equinox P229 vs a Plane-Jane P229, only IIRC, besides the beautiful slide finish, optic front sight IIRC, and the Equinox Wood grips, or are they *simulated-wood plastic grips?

The only thing I didn't like in any of the Equinox guns, be them P226 or P229 were *those grips, as they were much too thick, wide, for me, but that can easily be over-come with either Nils wood grips or, like what I have on my 40cal, Hogue side rubber grips (love'em) or, on my 9mm I have the slightly wider, CT laser grips, but find the extra width ok because of the rubber with some give to them.. mainly no slippage due to wet weather or wet hands..

I'm sure you're gonna be a happy camper with that beauty, one way or another, other than, if you go camping, of course, put in the 357 barrel and get some good, maybe (+), FMJ for big things that might come your way.

But keep a pair of ear-muffs on hand, to quickly put on.. lol, gonna be loud, along with rdy to put on, at night, pair of dark sunglasses, cause you're gonna get blinded by the flame that comes out without them on and the second and third, quick, follow-up shots are gonna be based on sound reference..lol

Enjoy,

Ls

If I had the money, I'd jump on that deal!

The only difference will be with the sights. The EQ has the Tru-Glo front sight on it. I don't have any guns with Tru-glo sights on it, but I have fondled some. The light that the sight gathers is unbelievable.
The only down side to them is that they aren't as durable as the regular night sights if you are going to use the gun as a CCW.
You can always replace the front sight with a regular night sight.

1blindref;

You are a SIGaholic, the first step is admitting it.

Nice pix.

That's the pot calling the kettle black :neener: , I've seen your pictures.

BTW - I just sent money to Clubbster on the SigForum for a new P226ST 9mm!!
Pictures soon to come

Just wanted to post a pic of my first Sig. I got a pretty good deal on it.
I have/have had about every make of popular handgun and just got around to getting my first Sig. Mainly because I shy away from DA/SA triggers and had a chance to grab this P229 DAK w/ night sights.

My "rescued" Sig P220

First a little history. I purchased what was left after a wannabe gunsmith tried to make a P220 into a race gun. He machined deep cuts into the rear of the slide and mangled the muzzle end trying to fit Bomars or a similar sight. Then he threaded the barrel and did a poor job at that. The gun sat on the shelf in the back room of a gun shop until a manager that worked there decided to buy it.

I became aquainted with this manager and one day he was telling me the story about what was left of the gun. At this point the only thing left was the slide, frame, and barrel. I showed some interest so he pulled it out and asked if I wanted to buy it. It was really rough, the slide and barrel were probably too far gone unless you were a good metalsmith but the frame was in good shape except for some paint spatter on it when someone must have painted the room without a drop cloth. We came to a price on it and I made the purchase.

I knew there were parts kits available on the Internet because I had seen guns on there that were complete minus the frame. One day I found a complete P220 minus the frame. When I received the parts I put the gun together and the new barrel was a little tight. I shot it and it was very accurate, typical Sig, but I did not like how tight the barrel was.

At the beginning of this year I saw a post on THR about CCR refinishing and decided to send the ugly duckling off to Brad to have it looked over and refinished. You would think the story ended here.....nope there's more.

Brad called me soon after receiving it and said that the reason the barrel was tight is that it had a slight bulge in it. So the search was on for a barrel and I found a good used match barrel on the sigforum and sent it to Brad.

Here are the results:

Thats a beautiful P220. I love the reverse TT.
I see that its a Tysons Corner. What is the date code of your Sig?

Brad/CCR does some amazing work. Brad did an LEO trade-in P226 for me in reverse TT. My P226 could be your P220s twin!
Do you have any before pictures to post?

Great job in saving that classic P220! Thanks for sharing.

I've had my SIG P226R .40 for about two months now, but have been waiting to take a decent picture before I joined the club.

Count me in guys!

Next on my list... well, I really like the looks of 1BLINDREF's 229 with CTC grips. Is it really that much different than a 226, or is the slide and frame just a tad shorter. Still the same width? Easier to CCW?

Here's a good idea of what a P229's length vs a P220, which is almost exactly the same size, height/length and grip of a P226.

Basically, the width of the P229 is (slide-wise) the same as your P226 but the P229 is aprox 3/4" shorter in length and depending on whether you have flush fitting mags or not, is aprox 1/2" less tall in the grip making the gun overall about 1/2" less tall as well.. very ccw/comfy wise.

Hey LS, I think you have to send me "my" P229 with the CTs :neener:

Here are a couple of pics of a P229 vs a P226 that will give you an idea of the size differences.

The P229 has the wood grips.

I don't consider it reverse, I think this is the normal TT, and the other way is reverse. :D

I have no idea about date codes, my frame serial number is G 144 2** and the slide is G 147 5**. What is a Tysons corner?

All I have are some quick snapshots of the gun that I took right before I sent it off to Brad. The lighting is poor and all it looks like is a used P220 with a little holster wear. They don't do much to show how incredible Brad's work is. I showed it to three people yesterday and they thought it was a brand new gun.

I will have to post pics of my P226's on here when I get a chance.
