OK. There are TONS of silly gun myths going around, and one of the most troublesome gun conversations we can have is one where we have to correct someone spreading them. So, lets here some of these myths you have heard people say about guns.

- Exit wounds the size of a fist.

- 45acp blowing a man off his feet

- Exaggerated magic tumbling bullets

- .5 MOA SKS or AK's

Too many more to list

Here are some of mine:

All of the Black Talon Rumors.

People claiming that they saw someone get their head blown off by a .45ACP.

People claiming that they saw someone get knocked backwards by a .45ACP.

Someone claim that some mysterious German company recently came out with a handgun that takes a magazine that is basically 2 single column magazines together, except they bullet feeding is reversed and once one stack runs out of ammo, the magazine must be removed, turned around and inserted again.

Someone claimed that he saw a .50BMG rifle knock the shooter 12 meters back.

Someone claimed he aimed a .458 Magnum straight at a quarter and hit it at a mile and a half distance.

Someone claimed that he unloaded a whole 8 rounds of bird shot on a squirrel at 10 meters and the squirrel got away. I actually buy this one. What is amazing about it is that the person telling the story not only told it, but did so in a bragging manner.

People claiming that the .45ACP is the largest and most powerful pistol round in the world (you know that I had some fun with this one.

Someone claimed that he had a .50 cal Desert Eagle with a FACTORY installed built in laser sight. He also gave me dimensions of the gun, which were a little under 2 feet long. I asked him if it had an extended barrel and he said no. It was kinda funny because he was trying to boast his ego to my neighbors at my expense, and it all fell apart for him when I returned a few minutes later with a real Desert Eagle of about half the size of his given dimensions and asked him how big his was again.

Here's an oldie that somehow occasionally re-surfaces....."the Glock is a plastic gun that can get though metal detectors".

That all guns kill people, primarily those held by law abiding citizens. By far the most deadly group of people to have them.

How about AR-15 myths in general?

'The AR-15 will malfunction if the magazine base is touching something. It's a design defect.' It's the fault of a magazine if this happens. The magpul P-mags that I keep for my XCR will fire in my neighbor's A2 style AR even with the baseplate resting on the ground.

'The AR-15 won't work unless you download your magazines.' ...This one can be true. The problem is when they start blaming the bolt design of the weapon, instead of the magazine that malfunctions.

'The M4 is deadlier than the M16 because the bullets tumble out of a short barrel.' ...I blame the 'patriot pistol' scene in Metal Gear Solid 3. Thankfully I haven't had anyone SERIOUSLY state that 'you can get unlimited ammo by wearing the right headband'

AR-15 magazines malfunction if they have those cheapy followers in them. Spend the extra few dollars and get the nice ones, no problems.

This could be a Dave Letterman Top-Ten list...

In no particular order:
"Gun games will get you killed out on the street!"
"Sling-shotting the slide after an empty reload is the preferred technique, because it doesn't involve fine motor skills!!"
"AR-15s are unreliable!!!"
"Pump-action shotguns are more dependable than semi-autos!!!!"
"A gritty, 8-pound trigger on your carbine is no impediment to making a precision shot!!!!!"
"The Weaver stance is the best stance to shoot from!!!!!!"

That the Taurus Judge is the ultimate personal defense handgun. Disproved that one several times at the range by having a proud new owner step back to the 5 yard line and shoot a silhouette. Also, I refer them to http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/bot41.htm I've seen more than a few folks disappointed by the evidence, but a famous gun writer on a certain TV show still advocates it as the ultimate personal defense handgun.

The Judge is great for snakes, not so great for a concealed carry or car gun. There are lots of cheaper, handier and more effective alternatives.

During a conversation with a friend the subject of the .30-06 cartridge came up, he allowed he would never own a .30-06 because when fired the bullet never quit rising. I asked where they eventually stopped, he said he wasn't sure:D

This guy is no dummy, he owns his own business, a suscessful business I might add, but he's alittle dense on balistics.:D

A woman at a CeasefirePA booth at a fair told me that the reason that 'assault weapons' like the AK-47 were more deadly than hunting rifles was because "the round that they use is so much more powerful then the rounds used in your hiunting rifles."

I had fun making her look clueless in front of a bunch or people.

Another one that annoys me is the myth that enemy soldiers waited for the ping of an empty Garand and then attacked, knowing that the gun was empty. I can reload a Garand pretty fast and I'm positive that a skilled soldier or Marine could do it a whole lot faster. Besides that, the ping isn't that loud. 50 yds away, and you wouldn't even hear it, especially not in a battle.

The ones that get me are

that Dianne Feinstein knows enough about firearms to pass laws on them.

that my SKS is a high-powered assault weapon.

that greater magazine capacity equals innocent blood flowing in the streets.

that bayonets will lead people to mount unexpected charges on others' positions.

that a kid poses a threat to a school with a picture of a gun on his shirt.

that I should wait for the police to arrive to deal with an immediate threat at home or elsewhere.

that fire extinguishers are required safety equipment in every building but guns are not.

The mysteriously strong Mosin Nagant recoil

Black Talon myths (gotta reiterate this one, there's some really dense folks out there)

Anything involving EXTREME SHOCK !!!!!!! (Ninja not included)

That the AK uses the same firing system as a ballista (no lies, actually heard that one)

A 1911 will go off if dropped from waist height onto concrete

1 pound triggers on 1911's are dangerous:confused:

all .40 cal pistols are subject to blowing up:barf:

a 9mm will just go streight through a person:scrutiny:

If it cant be done with 10 rounds it just cant be done(IDPA Shooter said this)
same guy told me this
I can kill you in a gun fight because I am a MASTER IDPA SHOOTER :what:

My gun smith is better than yours:banghead:

You have to carry a gun 24-7

guns stop all crime(saw that on THR once)

My 30-06 is equal to or better than your 45-70:cool:

your not buying a pistol unless the first number in the caliber is a 4

your not buying a Rifle unless the first number in the caliber is a 4

Hi-point is a great reliable gun

Real men use their fists , only punks need a gun.

Carrying makes me "fearful"

Mercury in a .22 hollow point will vaporize your internal organs.

Select fire ,sawed off (6 inches) double barrel shot gun.

Ceramic GLOCK complete W/ ceramic bullets

Rambo was based on a true story
