I like Lendsringer's Browning .380 BDA. It's probably not the best solution, being too large for too minimal a cartridge, but it wasn't all that long ago that it was close to state-of-the-art for plainclothes detectives and armed citizens. The advantage of a gun like this is that shot-to-shot recovery time is excellent and the gun is quite accurate. Moreover, while the .380 is not the greatest thing going anymore, it still works.
I know there are better choices, here, but that's the one I like and I wouldn't feel undergunned with it at all....
