SKS Blasphemy

Sad site at the range with the "sporterized" SKS. Now I have seen some nice ones but this one wasn't. I tried to help as I could (from knowledge garnered here) but there was only so much I could help them with.

Polymer stock, loose fit, accuracy out the window...

Failures to feed. They were using a detatchable 50 or 40 rounder. Didn't have the top round high enough, I knew they were in trouble when I heard "The feed ramp is missing..." Had them open up the lips on the mag, and it fed okay after that. Let him know it works a lot better with the normal 10 rounder, and I showed him mine. But he said he had a hard time using the stripper clips to push in the rounds.

Scope Mount on the receiver cover, well, nothing to do about that thing, but it also 'cause a secondary problem of letting the release latch come loose. Let him know there were better mounts if he really needed a scope, that mounted with allen screws and such.

He declared his $200 SKS a POS sadly... too bad he bought it that way, if it was stock, it would have been fine... I forgot to check what it's country of origin was. I told him mine has been fine, it's better as it was built, not with all the new add ons.

I'd have offered him $100 for his POS...

...then put it back the way it should be with a wood stock and 10 round magazine.

I have a 30 round magazine I leave in mine all the time. Now, I have an original ten round one in my shooting box that I take to the range every time I go with the intention of reinstalling it but haven't yet.

Use it for parts or maybe try to find a u-fix-em for a stock.

Edit: In fact Century has a Yugo SKS fix-em.

I was thinking about offering some cash, but I would rather he return it to stock himself and find out how reliable it normally is. Hope he does...

When in that configuration, they are no longer an SKS... They are lovingly referred to as the "RAR"...

Saw one on an episode of Cops. Some Redneck guy (no shirt) had been beating on his girlfriend, so the GF's father came over (as any Father would) and beat the crap out of the boy in front of his "Mamma". After the man had already left, the police showed up... The "Mamma" commented that "if thay come back and lay they hands own mah bowey agin, I got a Ess Kay Ess with a 30 round Clip eeyen it!"
Next thing you know, the cops are all passing around the SKS with El-cheapo FOLDING stock on it, 30 round mag sticking out, and they're all laughing at it.
