I was wondering of anyone here has had any personal experience using the Tapco 20 rd detachable mags with an SKS? Research seems to show mostly favorable reviews with the mags but I also see a lot of people saying to keep the SKS stock with the fixed 10 rd mags. I wondering how many of the stock people have actually tried out the Tapco mags.

Any experience here?

Don't they violate 922r unless a lot of other stuff has been replaced on the gun?

Yes if the parts count(import parts)isn't correct OR if the rifle/carbine was imported prior to 1990(and you can prove it).

Personally, I have no use for them. My two biggest issues with aftermarket detachable hicaps in general have been feed reliability and magazine jamming. The original ten rnd fixed with stripper clips a kids a lot of hassles.

Supposedly the Tapco 20rd "duckbill" mags work greatest when coupled with the Tapco poly stock. Supposedly a very reliable setup.

I had one for my Yugo 59/66A1 which also wore a Tapco poly stock. I experienced misfeeds often with the mag as it came out of the package, but all it took was to look at how the cartridges were feeding into the gun and see where the mag needed a bit of file work to feed properly. After just a little tweaking it worked perfectly, FMJ or HP, slow fire or mag dumps.

I will be the first to say that needing to "fix" a product to work right out of the box is a buzzkill, but the fact is the SKS is not an AK. Its hard to make a detachable magazine (that it was never designed to use) that will fit in, and function with all the different SKS rifles produced all over the world, right out of the box.

Its only $20. I would buy another one or more if I still had an SKS, for what its worth.
