Slick Side AR backup sights at 1 o'clock

I saw a slick side flat top AR with an Eotech up top. Very clean. It also had MBUS backup sights mounted at about the 1 o'clok position. And the rear site was mounted rearwards of the Eotech. My guess is that in the event of the Eotech's failure one would roll the rifle 30 degrees counter-clockwise to use the back up sites. Is this really done or is this gimmick? If it is GTG, how is the rear MBUS mounted?

This is basically what I want to do.

I use a similar set up for a rifle I use for some 3 gun stages. However my primary is a 3-12x optic with a red dot offset mounted. It works pretty well though the scope blocks all peripheral vision to the left side, as you'd expect. You do just roll the rifle to bring the secondary optic in to view.

I'm not sure why you'd offset mount irons with an Eotech or any other red dot optic, normally that's just mounted behind the optic and set up to cowitness. I don't see how offsetting makes any sense if there are other options.

I saw the rifle with an Eotech but I'm more likely to use optics. This rifle may become a scabbard carry.

That's it. Thank you.
My rifle is going to have a longer barrel. 18 or 20 inch and the JP modular hand guard. On their web site it shows a scope up top and a red dot at 45*. That excludes the MBUS and leaves the hand guard stripped less a tiny rail piece underneath for a light. That's it.

The first time I ever saw anything like that was on a carbine Kyle Lamb was building, while he was, ummm, still on active duty back in the late 1990s. At the time he was using a mini red dot as the 'rollover' close range sight, and it was mounted more at 11 o'clock than 1.

That doesn't seem to be the approach he's following now however... http://www.recoilweb.com/kyle-lambs-personal-vtac-mp15-567.html

very cool article. it's the first time i've seen a solid nod to melonite in regards to accuracy in a barrel coming from a reputable individual.

Jerry Miculek's AR-15

I'm in the process of building a poor man's 3-Gun AR using a 15-22.
Hey, it's cheap practice!

I have a GG&G 45 degree offset on the way, $25.99, and I think I like the countersunk retaining screw for tight spaces?

I like the looks of RMR type sights, but could not find any reasonably priced - it seems you have to spend more money for a good RMR type sight than for something like the Burris TRS-25. I plan on mounting a TRS-25 on the 45 degree offset mount, and have a Nikon P22 on the way for the long range optic.

If everything works, hopefully it will look similar to Beentown's setup.

I have a friend with a 15-22 that's waiting to see how everything works on mine before he gives the same setup a try.

If the higher mounted scope is set up for 100 yards or around that it's going to hellishly high for closer in stuff. At least that's what I figure the dual setup is intended for. The magnified optics for the long distance stuff and the offset for close in stuff out to around 25 yards.

A home boy. How 'bout that!?
In Seminole County, down by the lake, we knew an old fellow who sold a garbage company in Panama City and moved to the lake to become a rancher. We'd shoot hay bails at 500 yards. I may end up back at "The Lake" when I'm done with this city. There is a lot of good in your part of the country. A lot.
BTW, I went to school in Valdosta and Moultrie.

Beentown. I might actually go this route myself. I'm wanting to keep the hand guard clean as I can.

I like it. I use that rifle for yotes and a couple comps. It is really too barrel heavy to be very fast on target but awesome on a sneaky, up close Wiley.

If I were to do that set up again it would be with a pencil barrel.

Beentown - you don't have a picture of that setup from the rear, do ya?

I've got a GG&G 45 degree offset on the way, but I don't know how it compares to the DD mount you're using.

In pictures, it looks like the GG&G may lay out at more of an angle (1:30?), but 'til I can get it in hand to play with, I won't know. The DD&D you have looks nice and tight!

I've got a TRS-25 and GG&G mount on the way - plan on mounting as yours, and would like to keep it as tight / neat as possible.
I'll play with it, but I think I prefer mounting the red dot at the rear, unlike some I've seen that have it out front. I think the rear mount makes for a neater, cleaner install, with less chance of snagging, etc.

Got a Nikon P22 on the way, but the darn thing is 30-day backordered!
(I'm getting a little tired of this hurry up and wait with all the shortages) :banghead:

All this is going on a 15-22.

I prefer it forward because where it is in that pic would interfere with my ch grip.

Bc it's not for multiple aiming distances; it's pretty easy to do hold overs. It's because for the precision stuff you need magnification to see the target and for the close up fast stuff magnification slows you down so two types of sights are the solution. Not like somebody putting two red dots on there with one zeroed for 100 and the other for 10 yards or something.
