I have been debating this issue for WAY too long.
I carry a Sig 239 in .9mm and I am looking for a small .45
I looked at the Sig 245; SW 457 , Taurus PT 145 and now the Para LDA Carry .45

I have heard bad things about the Taurus, but the gun looks great.
Can anyone speak about the Para LDA Carry The PDA holds 6+1, while the Carry 7+1.
Is the LDA everything Para says it is?

Any other advice??

thanks.

be safe

The Sig 245 is no longer manufactured, but you can get the 220 Compact which is almost identical with the addition of a beavertail. The 245 is obviously available on the used market as well. Lot of people complained about the balance of the 245. I never got the chance to handle one, so I don't know. The S&W 457 shares one problem with the Sig 245, a very high bore axis, makes muzzle flip more pronounced. The Taurus and Para seem to be hit or miss. If you get a good one, then you're set. If you get a bad one, then have fun with customer service, although from what I understand Para's CS is somewhat better than Taurus'. The LDA trigger is quite simply amazing. Buttery smooth and short, not quite as nice as a SA but easily one of the best DA triggers out there. Another gun to consider would be the Kahr .45s. They make 4 I believe. The P45 and CW45 are the same size, the CW45 is just a little cheaper. The TP45 is the biggest and the PM45 is the smallest.

What about a Glock 30 or Glock 30 SF? Nice pistol, reasonably small, and quite accurate.

Smith and Wesson Chief Special .45 felt good in my hand at the gun shop a few years ago. Not what I was looking for, but it was nice.

Look for a good "used" Springer 3.5" Ultra Compact .....and never look back !!

All steel design ....unlike most micro 45 acp's ..... so the pistol is perfectly balanced and built to last. Mine literally disappeares under a pull over t-shirt, while tucked inside a Milt Sparks IWB holster.

You must find one that has its feed ramps in factory like condition - no polishing or Kitchen table Gunsmith throat jobs ! If you are fimiliar with the standard 1911 .......... the Ultra Compact is built just like its bigger brother -- no funny recoil systems or ramped barrels. Very accurate too !

The only thing you must remember is the recoil springs on these smaller 45 acp's don't last very long at all. My pistol will destroy a 22 lb recoil spring in about 400 rounds - shooting hot hardball ammo. But that is only an $8 replacement part, if you can find them in a Gun shop.

I have a Sig P245. Its a real nice compact size. The recoil with full power 230 gr FMJ doesn't seem to be to bad. While they are no longer manufactured, I saw a brand new one in a gun shop a couple of months ago.

u missed

u missed the smallest and one of the best 45's out there. The kahr PM45 or the Kahr cw45. super handguns..

I really like the sub-compact Glock platform, and that would be my first choice. Also, the Kimber Ultra Carry is nice if you like 1911's.

90% of the time i carry a star pd45 with a 4inch barrel , the rest of the time i carry a colt defender with a 3 inch barrel . both are 100% reliable .

Springfield XD-45 SC. Try it, you will like it, I carry a Sig 239 in 9mm myself.

If only they made such a thing....

There's an XD Compact... 4" barrel with a shortened, subcompact grip but springfield has yet to bring out a .45 XD with a 3" barrel. i saw one once.... and then i woke up.

The Colt New Agent is a very interesting thing. You might as well think of it as not having sights, and once you get away from Colt's including 'aiming guide' and do some short range practice you find yourself putting shots into pretty tight groups by just looking at the target and pointing the gun at it without really looking at it.

It's sortof like shooting with a crimson trace (another option, of course) but without the red dot to lose in a sunny target.

Without sights the pistol can be drawn and presented very quickly, too, and I'm finding that it's turning out to be the best carry .45 I've ever had.

there's going to be a DAO version soon that might be even better. I'm not a big fan of double action auto pistols with their mechanically more complicated triggers though so a lot depends on how well Colt can make it work.

little guy

I;'ve got a couple I trade out with, a Bul 5, and a Para Slim Hawg, both accurate and easy to conceal, and extremely reliable, the Bul-5 is fast becoming a favorite, sweet trigger.
good luck

I would steer clear of the Para. I haven't heard too much good about their reliability or customer service.

I recently bought a Kahr PM-45, but have only fired about 160 rds through it. Not reliable enough yet for a carry piece, but improving. Will probably need to put another 200-300 rds through it to get it broken in. Quite accurate, although the sights were off 2" at 7 yds. Vicious recoil with 230-gr +Ps, but quite manageable with standard pressure, or 200-gr +Ps.

Also have a Taurus PT-145 Millennium Pro which I love, but the Kahr will fit where the Taurus won't.

I have nothing but good things to say about Para's LDA, and their Customer Service.

The LDA is a very good system, especially if you are either transitioning from revolvers or DAO pistols and haven't quite yet bought into the 1911 single-action system and carrying C&L.

I owned and carried the LDAs for a while until I was comfortable with the whole C&L idea.

I shoot the single action 1911 better now, but if Para had made an alloy framed 3" LDA back then, I might never have discovered this...

I boycot para.

They are made in canada, and canada won't let americans drive to alaska with their guns.

So I boycot para and canada.
