Small Conceal Carry vs Duty Pistols?

Will the small conceal carry pistols take the same abuse as duty pistols?

To be honest, my Shield seems like a big gun to me so when people reference it as a small-conceal-carry, I am taken aback. Put it this way, it is the biggest gun I own and I won't be buying bigger. I am thinking that the P 365 isn't bigger. I like that gun. I don't know enough about firearms to know what constitutes a true "duty gun." Apparently, it is rougher and tougher and bigger than that which constitutes a small ccw. Mostly Glock and larger Sig Sauers would be my guess. I would think that a hefty revolver would outlast them all. I am liking them more and more, it seems.

Duty guns are what the cops carry.

Some places that's a Glock 17, Some places that's a Glock 19'and some places that's a S&W 6906.

A Shield isn't a bad gun for concealed carry

Concealed carry doesn't really change the size category for me. I would think of the Shield as Subcompact Single Stack and the P365 as a Subcompact "Skinny" Double Stack to differentiate from "fat" double stacks like the G26 or M&P M2.0 SC.

Glock
G17 - Full Size
G19 - Compact
G26 - Subcompact
G43 - Subcompact Single Stack
G48 - Compact Single Stack

S&W
M&P M2.0 Full-Size (4.25 & 5.0")
M&P M2.0 Compact (3.6 & 4.0")
M&P M2.0 Subcompact
Shield M2.0 Subcompact Single Stack (3.1 & 4.0")

Since Glock seems to have defined the modern striker fired synthetic framed pistol I would default to their size categories for the most part. Manufacturers are all over the place although S&W has apparently defaulted to Glock Size Categories on the M2.0.

Free advice (complete with double your money back guarantee): You really should spend a bit of time shooting larger, full-sized guns. They behave so much better in recoil that you will see things during your shooting that you've likely never seen if all you've ever shot are little compact CC guns. You can learn a lot about how to really shoot with regular-sized guns, and then carry some of that skill and knowledge back to the smaller guns... whereas very few people can really figure out this stuff working with the most difficult guns to shoot quickly and well (compacts and smaller).

I don’t see my Shield as being more fragile than my M&P, same as a G43X and G23.

The category I have concerns with is true pocket guns, ie LCP.

I’ve got over 1k through my LCP in the 10 years I’ve owned it and it’s still solid but it’s never had more than a couple of mags through it every month.

I'm somewhat confused by people's thought process. It would seem to me the additional leverage would make it easier to damage a full size butt or slide.

I would think it would take fewer pounds of force to bend a G17L slide than a G26. It would be an interesting experiment to try.

Ruger has never stated a design lifespan but consensus is it should last a little longer than a Keltec P3AT. The P3AT has a minimum designed lifespan of 6,000 rounds.

The LCP doesn't have a full size variant so it's not really apples to apples like a G17L vs G26.

Shield = Subcompact Single Stack
P365 = Subcompact Double Stack "Skinny"

I can't really define the "Skinny" category but a G26 is in the "Fat" category to me.

The Rohrbaugh R9 was a Micro to me. Is that what you mean by "Small"?

Shoot what you carry. HK vp9 90k, HLK P2000 40k CZ rami 35k, Sphinx sc 35k. Now carry a Walther p99c as 15k.
Good shooting Bob

quote edited.

I think that this makes a whole lot of sense and I might do it.
