So, just bought a S&W M&P .40. Fits like a glove. Shot pretty well. My Mother-in-Law loves it. She put about 20 rounds through and and started thinking about buying herself one. What does everyone else think about this beautiful weapon.

i think they've worked out most of the original quality control bugs by now. it will shoot even better if the add the Apex Tactical tool steel sear and polished striker block to it. they have a package of parts for the M&P and it is a DIY project...don't get the extractor, that is for 9mm versions

Anyone know of a list of serial number groupings? I too am looking to get a used one so I can put a few extras on it, but HAVE NO IDEA how the serial numbers are grouped.

huh? i have no idea what you are referring to. what kind of groupings would you put serial numbers into other than consecutive?

I found a full size 9mm range rental impressive, enough so that I bought a 9mm compact as a carry gun. It was 100% reliable from the very first round - absolutely perfect functioning.

I've the full size .40, have put the apex tactical sear & block in it, and carry it daily. Very happy with it.

My full size shoots very well once I got used to a gun with travel in the trigger. I used to shoot single action almost exclusively, it took a few hundred rounds to stop twisting the gun.

Zero failures of any kind so far in 450 rounds, stays dead level and settles right back where I want it. No modifications of any kind yet, I've been considering the Apex parts, but haven't taken the plunge yet.

Found a roll of leather in the house, am considering trying to make a IWB for myself right now.

Check brownells for the .357 sig and 9mm barrels for it, 3 guns in 1. (though you need new mags for the 9mm. )

My M&P40 is a perfect fit for me, and it has functioned flawlessly as well--love it!

I don't know that I'd mess with the sear or anything else right now. We often hear about how the trigger on the M&P improves over time, so if you're shooting it well, I'd probably leave her stock and just shoot the snot out of it. Congrats on the new gun!

the only reason i'm even considering getting an M&P is because of the improvements available with the installation of the Apex Tactical parts...the trigger just wasn't up to snuff before that and sending the gun off for work was a bit expensive compared to what is now available as a DIY project

The round count through mine is too low to make a definitive judgment about the gun, however, so far my experience with my M&P Pro has been thoroughly positive.

i also have the m&p40 it fit like a glove with the medium back strap , and shoots like a dream , i can shoot it all day and doesnt hurt my hands[gettin arthritis ] i had a glock before and it hurt my hands the m&p doesnot also the glock wanted to twist in my hand and the m&p just stays right there for rapid fire , in other words , its great

Would someone please explain to this dummy the difference between an Apex kit and a Burwell trigger job? I assume, for starters, the overnight air delivery charges add a lot, but what is done with a Burwell job vs. the Apex?

I have a M&P357 and the trigger pull seems a mile long.

So,what's the price difference in the M&P and a Glock 19 ?

Not much...comes out to about $15 at my local dealer (and he has pretty good prices). When you consider that S&W often runs a "$50 or 2 free mags" offer, it makes the M&P price very competitive. I feel very comfortable recommending either the M&P or Glock 19 to shooters looking to buy a quality handgun.

I'm just fine with the M&P stock trigger in the 9/40/.357 versions, so I haven't modified my M&P yet. I really like my M&P 9 fullsize (to the point where I'm not looking to purchase a centerfire autoloader at this point as the M&P 9 serves my needs extremely well).

My mother took it to her CCW class and scored a perfect score with it, and that's for someone who's had extremely minimal experience with handguns. That's pretty darn good.

My first handgun.......I love it ....over 3000 rds and still going great...even named myself on these boards after this fine gun:)

I have the M&P compact in both .40 & 9mm. I agree with the Apex sear and block kit. It made my gritty hard trigger smooth as silk and breaks like a fine piece of glass.

I have a full size that I sent off to Burwell for a trigger job. The trigger is very nice now. It is pretty rough even after a break in period prior to that. If I had to do it again I would have gotten the apex kit. I have no complaints about the gun now, fit and finish are great and it has been totally reliable. It fits my hand perfectly with the medium grip insert.

Mine did have the magazine safety which I removed.

Hi All,

I've never owned a gun of any kind so I thought it was time I fixed that.
I just bought a full size M&P 40.
Unfortunately I live in California so the gun is still 10 days away.

I believe all M&Ps I saw were single action, but I just saw this ad
http://www.ableammo.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=91500

which says the California model is DAO.
I went back to the S&W site and it says "DA" only on the "pro" models.
It doesn't say anything about action on the CA model (shortened link: http://bit.ly/bje7yB)
Does anyone here know if the CA model is SA, DA, or if I have the option to choose?

Thanks,
Dado

An M&P 40 was my first firearm purchase 2 years ago. I have 3 M&P's now, if that tells you anything. The M&P 40 is my most reliable firearm. It almost never fails, even under very abusive condtions, is accurate, has a good trigger even stock, and fits the hand very well. I would highly recommend this pistol, I have about 7000 rounds through mine.

All the M&P models have the same action...whether you call them SA or DA is dependent on who's marketing hype you want to believe. It is really just a striker action, when you consider that the DAO listing comes from the slight rearward movement of the striker as you press the trigger rearward.

The only options you have is the internal lock...the M&P45 has the option of the thumb safety. The magazine safety actually has an upside...it comes without the "warning" on the side
