- there is a GRAIL gun!fine companion for my model 52
Beautiful. That laminated grip panels are great looking. The 41 most be near the apex of gun design for sheer beauty. Yes I know women are beautiful guns and cars are just pretty.First, congratulations! The 41 was a grail gun for me from the beginning. I found a used beater a number of years ago for a decent deal. I had Clark go through it, and now it is a favorite. Since it was so poorly taken care off, no harm in all I have done to it. Great to shoot!
Very recently, I stumbled into a second for a song! A little research, an early 5 in field barrel! Will be sending off for a letter soon.

I'm now on the slow-hunt for a *field* length
Well.....I did. Honestly, I hated my 41. Jammed constantly and busted my knuckles repeatedly. Its long gone now and I dont miss it.patience, and it will come!
@NIGHTLORD40K and @tipoc have the grail barrels…the 5 1/2 in bull with the extending front sight!
I love.22 hand target guns! just hang out at the range or with buddies and plink away!
take it easy kinda shooting, cold drink, bbq, good chat
a case of Lone Star beer
The S&W 41 is a fine pistol. You will not regret buying it. I love mine!
My bro-n-law and his son are continually buying (mostly used) guns. The son showed up here one day with a Ruger Competition. At the time I thought it was one of the best 22s in existence. I had to have one. View attachment 1004072 His dad came with a S&W 41. You know what happened. I’m not a target/competitive shooter, only to zero an optic. I shoot at critters. Maybe now I can hit a few
In race competition, like 22 steel challenge, it’s not the 41 from S&W competing, it’s the Victory.

Admittedly, the 41 is maybe the best looking, and good shooting pistol.
Different tools for different tasks. What I am seeing is that biggest problem with the 41 is that it is recoil sensitive. Its correct cycling seems to be built around the CCI standard velocity ,22 LR load. Mine will function perfectly with that load. With the much cheaper and at times more available in bulk mexican aguila standard velocity loads none of the local model 41s will function, but many other brand guns with lighter slides will. Many people routinely put oil based lubricants on the top bullet of the magazine. That increases slide velocity and I am positive that it batters the slide and frame. I have installed a buffer in mine and I am shooting the federal automatch I until finish up the supply that I have on and will then switch to my stash of CCI standard velocity. The Federal auto match is not a real hot high velocity load and I hope with the buffer will not batter the gun. Remember we are talking of multiple thousands of rounds. One of the best shots in our group has a visibly battered gun. He always oils his cartridges and now his gun is beginning to malfunction regularly after maybe constantly shooting if for many years. He might have 40 years on it.In race competition, like 22 steel challenge, it’s not the 41 from S&W competing, it’s the Victory.

When mine gets dirty, it malfunctions so I have to clean every so often. But maybe that is not true for aquila ammo.Mine will.
I went through the oiled top round treatment, but I have found a simpler method:
Don't clean it too often. A bare steel chamber is "sticky," and weak extraction/ejection will ensue. After cleaning the chamber, fire some fouling shots to lay down some bullet lube and soot.
