Smith or Colt

I am going to order an AR15 tomorrow and can't decide which one to get. I have it narrowed down to a S&W M&P15A or a Colt 6920. The Colt is $1300 and the Smith is $1100. Out of those two, which would you get and why. Also, I am going to put an Eotech on it if that makes a difference.

Smiths are good quality, and Colt has had all sorts of spotty CS with their products in the past.

i bought a smith and it was dead reliable out of the box- the fit and finish is first rate! colt ARs are over rated

accuracy is good- just remember to break in the barrel before you go blow a case of ammo... it is tedious but worth it though, better accuracy and better life, no matter which one you buy

Is there anything about the Colt that makes it better or do people just like Colt so they pay for the name?

Forbidden fruit and tradition have be saying Colt is the way to go.

I don't see two hundred dollars difference in the Colt. I would get the S&W and spend the difference on ammo.

I'd take the Colt. Higher grade of steel in the barrel, 1:7 twist, heavy buffer, double heat shields in the hand guards, comes with the carry handle, comes with the side sling adapter, no huge white logo on the side of the mag-well. Nothing major, but a lot of little things that make the $200 difference worth it IMO. Either way you are getting a good rifle.

S&W if for nothing else, their excellent customer service record. I think Smith's rendition of the AR-15 is as good as anyone's.

i picked colt, but not really on performance, but on resale value.

the truth is i owned a colt and it was not as good as the bushmasters i have now. it would occasionally malfunction, but have been told that was a fluke.

reconsidering that the purpose of this thread was for the o.p. to find a rifle to shoot, and not sell, i maybe should have voted smith.

If not restricted to the two, Daniel Defense, either the M4 or their new XV w/o the rail is about $1150.

It is doubtful that most people will ever be able to tell a significant difference in quality of these two. That is not to say there is no difference in quality, however. So I would say you might as well get the S&W if you are having to ask this question.

I own three Colt AR's and use a Colt M-16 at work. I would stick with the Colt for reliability and long term appreciation of the investment, the best of both worlds shooting and $!

I am leaning heavily toward the S&W since I figure that if I ever want to do any serious competitive shooting I will need a different upper and trigger anyway so the smith will do the job just fine, especially since I am putting an Eotech on it so the S&W already has the BUIS. Thanks for all the advice; I can't wait for the sites to be brought together so I can get speedy responses like this all the time.
