Ive heard to many bad stories about Sig 1911 ,The S&W seem to be very well received.
My self I would buy a Colt Name. Only a couple MIM parts and better resale. Same price range . S&W has the Schwartz firing pin block and a external extractor I don't like the Firing pin block working off the grip safety That s my main problem with S&W
Both are good pistols but neither is a 1911, external extractors you now. I am a SIG man and actually got rid of all my S&W autos. I still chose the S&W "1911" over the SIG "1911".
I have both. They are both outstanding guns. SIGs are still associated with teething problems encountered early on in production which I think accounts for a good part of the negatives that you will hear. As much as I really like my SIG I would have to give the edge to the Smith. I find the Smith to be a more refined gun with a superior trigger. Both the Smith and SIG are keepers. In case you would ever need your gun serviced S&W customer service is really hard to beat, and that should also be considered.
I don't sweat the internal/external extractor stuff. To me it's a non-issue although I respect the concerns of the 1911 purists. Neither gun has ever missed a beat through hundreds of rounds.
