none of the glocks unless chambered for 50 cal are gonna do more i think then piss the bear off.
Don't you read the news? Glock 40's can put down 400 lb man-eating Bengal tigers. :)

ET,

That's the kind of info I was looking for.

So I have a ? about doing the conversion, If you swap between a 9mm and a 40 S&W, is the barrel the only thing that needs to be changed?

I would have thought that the magazines would be different too, and what about the recoil springs?

Also, it's not like I'm going bear hunting here. I am bowhunting for deer, in country where it's rare to even see a bear. I would have about as good a chance of seeing a mountain lion as a bear.

The only times I've been close to bears, I never knew they were there until they were long gone, but you just never know what could happen.

I guess it's more for piece of mind that I would have something to defend myself if the need arose than anything else.

I like the idea of being able to have the 9mm for plinking at the range and then have the power of the 40 when it's needed.:)

Yes, you should get 9mm magazines. Keep in mind you can swap barrels back and forth between 357SIG and 40. You can swap in a 9mm barrel, but you can't swap up from 9mm (19,26,17). The hole in the slide is too small to fit a 40 or 357 sig barrel.

O.K. so if I get the 27 and wanted to, I could put a 9mm barrel in and use a magazine for a 26 and I effectively have a 26?

But if I buy the 26 I can't convert up to the 27 without a slide change, correct?

Yes, but I wouldn't carry it that way...just my 2 cents.

Correct.

Yes, the 27 with the 9mm conversion barrel & the 26 mags are all you need to effectively have a 26. Just remember that the Glock 9mm barrel won't work. You need to buy a conversion barrel to go from 40s&w to 9mm. Glock doesn't make one. I bought mine from Lone Wolf. Storm Lake also makes a good one. They will set you back about $100-150. Not a bad price for another caliber.

I have had great success with the conversion barrel. It has been as reliable as the OEM barrel. I have shot close to 2000 rounds at the range through the conversion barrel without a single ftf. I would have no problem carrying my G27 with that barrel, but each situation is different. I wouldn't try to carry it without a few thousand through it though, but that's just me. I need to know that a carry gun is going to shoot every time or I won't bother carrying it.

magnatecman, after reading your OP, you might consider more than one Glock.
If you are truly concerned about bears and big cats, small bore 9mm and .40S&W are not the best choices....the round for that is a hot 10mm and the weapon for that round in the back country is a Glock 29. As a CCW, I'd have to recommend the Glock 26..Personally the I feel even the G26 is on the big side for EDC and I carry a Kahr K9

Tell that to people who carry a 1911 or full-size Sig.

My G26 is very easy to carry concealed.

If you want a longer barrel, you can get them from various distributors...For me an after market would be my thoughts, you can shoot lead and not worry;) Bears and a 9mm:what:, oh well no need to say much about that one:evil:

Regards

I agree. Cut my teeth on carry with a USP .40 and a CZ-97B.

Glock 26/27 is perfect for carry, unless you just HAVE to carry OWB, in which case they are still perfect if you are using your noodle and getting a nice thin holster.
