So I went to pay my cable bill and saw a no gun sign, you know the no gun sign with a revolver and the red circle and a slash through it no words just the picture.
I had my 1911 IWB snug up front like I usually carry it with my t-shirt untucked to cover things up. As I stood there I thought ok the most they can do is ask me to leave(rules for VA) but wait that sign clearly says no revolvers, ah-ha thats it I have an automatic guess I am ok now. We can add charter communications to the list of anti's.

Yeah, it's RARE to see an official (legal) sign. I see those ridiculous, no smoking looking signs everywhere; pay 'em no mind :)

Pay em no mind can lead all the way up to having your CCW revoked.
I beg to differ. Here in Texas if you don't have a specific bi language sign up, it's worthless. Of course they can always ask you to leave. Old dead horse here and I know, private property is private property, but if they want us to play by the rules, they had better as well.

Haha! Yeah w/ out the actual wording you could see it that way... Like I've seen signs prohibiting Jeeps, dirtbikes, cars, horses using pics and they were all pretty specific and clear!

Yes I agree but the real word to watch here is CAN. With no criminal intent its really hard to anything about it in VA. Especially if no one sees the gun and in my cast the sign was not on the door on the way in it was on the wall next to the customer service windows a good 10-20 yards into the building. Its kinda too late when you see the sign there. Also didnt VA pass some sort of law forbiding the no gun signs? I need to do some research on that, it might have been on some certian buildings in just some localities though.

All depends on what state you're in. In NV you can ignore any sign so long as it's not a school, fed building, or airport...

Clearly us gun types understand that DC has tried to distinguish between revolvers and semis so I would think that if the sign was clearly a revolver, the case could be made in today's world, that one thought they didn't want revolvers in their business, but that a Glock with a 33 round magazine would be welcomed.

Maybe they are concerned that a revolver wouldn't have enough rounds to be a viable piece of protection in their establishment. Sounds like a dangerous place to be.

We have signs up at work that would lead me to believe that no one is allowed to bring a single action revolver into the building :)

Unfortunately in Ohio those "gunbuster signs" as we call um are pretty prevelant even after having concealed carry on the books since 2004 but they are fading somewhat. When my cable company (comcast, at the time put the gunbuster sign on their local office door I cancelled my subscription and signed up with Directv and told them that quite plainly. I will not support (if I have a choice) any business that won't support the 2nd Ammendment rights of the honest citizen. We have a concealed carry organization in Ohio called "Ohioans for Concealed Carry" (www.ohioccw.org) and a do not patronize while armed section, to warn members about unfriendly businesses.:neener:

There are plenty of threats on that subject.
It all boils down to the laws in your state.
I would go to the manager and tell him to remove the sign or to close my account!

I don't think that sign means much. It's over ruled by the state laws. If that was legal they could put up a sign saying no blonds, wouldn't that be sad. I have posted on this topic before, Winn Dixie had one of those no gun signs up, and they were told to remove it by the state, once someone brought it to thier attention. When I had my gym, I had an idiot partner who thought that putting a sign up would stop people from bringing their guns in. Since so many members were in law enforcement, the sign was ordered to be removed within a week or two.. Also, no one paid attention to it anyway, including me. I have a feeling that there will be many responses to this one, best off calling your state or city offices and ask them.

Now that would upset me. The SAA should be allowed everywhere. I'd like to see it be made law.

NC does not have specific wording for their laws and it seems as if any-old type of sign an establishment wants to come up with is legal. Seems to me there should be some sort of set standard that is regulated by the state.

I thought (in NC anyway) that even if there IS a "no gun" sign, assuming it is private property not otherwise prohibited to CCW, worst case you would be asked to leave. THEN if you do not leave, you would be trespassing, etc, but just possessing a gun would not be against the law. Is that correct?

Ok I cant even get direct tv where I live so what am I suposed to do? Set up the rabbit ears? Not that I watch that much tv but I like to have more options when I do. Not to mention they run my phone and internet too.

Well you should be able to recieve more stations over the public airwaves after analog TV signals are phased out in february.

Myself, I don't have the patience to wait all day to watch something only to have to sit through commercials. I usually don't bother watching a program unless it's available on demand content. Complimentary on demand of course.

No.

Some of y'all just Do Not Get It.

If you spend money with anti-gun bigots, it helps reinforce their anti-gun bigotry.

Those signs are also an advertising and public relations nightmare. They're there, reinforcing the message that "guns are bad" to every fence-sitter who walks in and our that door.

Now whose side are you on, anyway?

Here they will just ask you to leave if caught. As long as you do they cant touch you, now if you refuse then they can open the hurt locker!

if you can suggest an alternative to the cable company in my area then I will switch but since the only one is dish which I have no clear shot to the south west there are no alternatives that I know of.
So I guess I am on my side like it or not they have you in this area.

Did you talk to the management?

Did you tell them that they should worry more about their cable installers than about citizens with legal permits?

TALK to management. Be nice. But communicate that you are NOT happy, and that you plan to switch service, due to the insult upon your character, as soon as it becomes feasible.
