So, who really carries their HP's?

I have always loved Hi Powers since shooting one fourteen years ago. I had finally purchased one of the last CDNN HP's in the traditional 9mm SA configuration back around christmas time. The HP's are hailed as being the most prolific 9mm's of all time and they are help in high regard. Now, my questions are; How many of you carry the HP either the BHP or FNHP? Do you feel safe with the safety on the gun? Have you got rid of the ambi safety in favor of a single sided/extended one? Have you removed the mag disconnect? What brand/capacity mages are you using? I've been toying around to putting more time at the range with this gun to get more comfortable with it and have thrown around the notion of making it a carry piece. I currently carry a G19 and, it has been flawless. I've mastered the trigger of that gun and have used it in a couple of pistol courses but I'm burnt on it right now and wouldn't mind a change.

Thanks, Flip.

Have an FEG clone, all stock except that I sanded to checkering off the grips and refinished them.I've never carried it but wouldn't be averse to it.Still one of the best handling pistols not to mention THE best looking ever IMO but I have others that carry or suit my needs better.

Before I was old enough to own a handgun,my dream pistol was a duo-tone HP tweeked by Novak or Cylinder and Slide.I don't know why I've never bought one, other than the whole issue of it always being good to have something you want to attain and it would probably crush me if I got one and didn't really like it as much as I hoped!Neurotic a bit?:D

I just bought an older BHP that will now be a carry gun.
As a matter of fact, I just ordered a new holster, mag pouch, and extended safety( left side only ) from Midway USA for it today. And I'm thinking that if it works out as well as I think it will, I'll probably have a set of night sights and a nice electroless nickel finish put on it somewhere down the line.

I carry mine occasionally...mostly for 'formal' occasions. I suspect I've carried it about 10 times in the past year. It's a 1980 vintage model and unfortunately the only BHP I still own, although it was the first. It's still got the original safety, Pachmayr grips, and a little smoothing up on the action but otherwise stock with the factory adjustable sights. In fact, I used it when I shot the qualification for my CHL several years ago.

I've never felt like I was giving anything up with it; I just prefer a SIG for most of my daily carry.

Regards,
Rabbit.

On rare occasion, I carry a BHP, cocked & locked with a retention strap that blocks the hammer. The safety sometimes works itself loose in that particular holster.

It is all what you feel comfortable with. Right now I am carrying a cocked and locked Colt Commander. Have I carried my HP concealed? Yes. The only reason I don't carry it more is that I prefer a shorter barrel. With my body style a 4-4.5" barrel carries easier for me.

I carried one for years. Now, it's occasionally rotated with something else.

The HP carries VERY well. Slim and not as heavy as a 1911. Fits the hand like a glove.

I can see no drawback in carrying a HP.

I frequently carry my FN HP in a G&G shoulder rig, it rides discreetly and comfortably. It is one of five or six handguns I carry in an informal rotation, as my mood dictates.

I carry mine all the time. I have two in fact, one a basic blued Mk III Browning and another worked over by EGW. Usually carry Bladetech IWB, sometimes in a Galco NSA. I don't have a problem with C&L (in fact that is my prefered mode of carry) The gun isn't going off unless I pull the trigger. I am not going to put my finger on said trigger until I am ready to shoot.
Both guns have the mag disconnect removed and both have ambi safeties. I used either factory mags or Mec-Gar 15 rounders.

I carry a 4" clone frequently.

It's the FM "detective" model.
Fits Commander leather, so I alternate pretty often.

If I'm dressed, my Hi Power (Browning) is on me. If I'm not, it's in close reach. If there arrives an occasion to dress "fancy," then I carry my FNHP in my custom shark-trimmed HBE holster.

Both the Browning and the FN are MkIII models with the ambi safeties in place. The FN has the mag disconnect removed, and has THE SWEETEST trigger of any gun I own -- It's better than my 1911. My Browning has the mag disconnect in place (only because I can't get the dang thing out!!!).

I carry cocked and locked all of the time. I feel no qualms about it -- the gun has never given me occasion to feel "iffy." Since owning quality holsters, I have never had the safety wipe off, and even if it did, the trigger guard is covered.
Cocked and locked, no ifs ands or buts.

I carry with Mec-Gar mags. I own other mags, like the KRD 17- and 15-round mags, but they are pretty much for range use. I stick with either factory or Mec-Gar mags... I do also trust military contract mags, so long as they are true military contract mags.

I carry it every day, and I only have 1 complaint about it -- the magazines are sharp on the rear edges, so when carrying spares, the sharp edge sometimes finds you and pokes you a little. The gun itself, however, is very comfortable.

Normally I carry my Sig 229 but a H P hides so well that I often carry one in a Uncle Mike Nylon IWB. Talk about a flat platform. I'm having one updated with Meprolight sights and Hakim grips as we speak.
My wife just surprised me with a new H K P 2000 so we'll have to see which I choose.

I used to carry a FM Hi-Power, but the safety would disengage upon drawing from the holster. I picked up a FN HP from CDNN which I now carry daily; it has the SFS system, so no more issues with the safety, although the FM has a nicer trigger. The holster is a Ted Blocker DA3 inside the waistband. Very comfortable and concealable and, as a bonus, works quite nicely with my SA 1911 as well.

I use the stock FN 13-round mags with 147 grain Federal Classic JHP in this pistol. It seems to shoot these better than the the 115 or 124 grain rounds that the FM prefers.

I made a decision today.

I took my HP and G19 out to the range today for a heads up competition. I hate to say that the G19 beat out the HP. I just am better with the glock. I know it's trigger better and can handle the gun better. The glock has been through a couple of classes with me so, I know it better. The HP killed the web of my hand only after a few rounds. I am streamlining my collection and have been getting rid of a few guns lately and today's little experiment really put the HP trouble as far as keepers go.

Plan to ...

When my holster FINALLY arrives.
Went out plinking with my FN 9mm SFS yesterday. Still feels like a small gun to me, but of course my previous belt gun was a Ruger stainless Bisley <grin>.
Problem with working for the military is that 'no guns' sign at the gates. Go figure.

I love my BHP, but I rarely carry it.

I think I need to get another holster. I have a cheesy DeSantis low-end IWB that just doesn't feel worthy of the gun. I have a lovely Milt Sparks Mirage between-the-belt-and-the-pant slide that works well and is worthy of the gun, but I really prefer front IWB carry (what northpaws call "Appendix carry").

I need to buy another holster. Go figure. :)
