Guns are high.

Ammo is insane due to overwhelming demand causing shortages. Saw bricks of Thunderbolt 22s (which is just about the crappiest 22 ammo on the planet) priced at $30. Generic white box 30-'06 (God only knows the source for this) was $32. Talked to an ammo dealer who said he could get almost nothing from suppliers. It just isn't available.

Maybe the panic is abating. In recent shows I saw folks with hand trucks taking multiple cases of high priced ammo out the door. Today I saw no money change hands at the ammo tables. One guy asked for some 9mm but of course there wasn't any. When demand cools production will catch up and prices will fall. How fast and how far is impossible to predict.

As long as people fear civil war or gun legislation from our new Socialist authorities in DC the stockpiling will continue.

I went today and managed to find a nifty little Savage Mark-IIF for 160 bucks. But yea, other than that, the prices on any rifle were outrageous. I saw a $600 SKS.

man, i just finished my car payment finally, but went to the show broke. Saw a CZ 82 for $219 plus 2 mags and a holster and $199 Makarov. Oh well, i'll just have to wait for the next show or until i get my carry permit.
i did manage to haggle a mossy 500 top folding stock and shotshell carrier for 65 bux flat (tax included ???). It's metal too, not the composite ATI.
but yeah, ammo is pretty high. At least 7-10 bux more than any retailer (sporting goods stores).

Here, it wasn't so much guns moving, but the ammo tables were swamped. Crates going out - $.50/round for mediocre 7.62x39mm. I literally heard this exchange at one point between a father and son - "That will be banned - grab it."

For the last few months I've been sceptical of the hording - I am old enough to recall this same phenomena in 1992-1993 from Clinton. But this is at another level. It really struck me today - a large number of Americans are quite literally arming themselves in fear of their government and to preserve their liberties. This may not be as trivial as I have been thinking. I am not expecting insurrection and violence, but it seems a very fundamental bond between the people and their central government as been broken in the minds of many, and more severely than since the Civil War.

Ok, I did open up the wallet for a few good deals:

1) An un-issued Yugoslavian SKS for $250 (can you believe that is a good deal for an SKS?). I could not resist the bayonet and grenade launcher combo. Of course, I got it from a guy who had just walked in the door, not from a table. Like new condition, so I was pleased.

2) Vietnam-style triangular handguards for my (future) AR-15. We decided the other day these were the cool way to go in this thread over in rifle country: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=440426 $5 from the bargain box.

3) $10 for some stripper clips and a 20rd. box of some decent quality (Federal) 7.62 x 39 for the Yugo. Yikes. Well, same price as the bulk Barnaul, so at least I got quality.

4) Now here is the best deal of the day. A first edition set of the three-volume "Army of the Potomac" collection by Bruce Catton. This is the 1953 edition published when the last volume came out, the first published full set. Excellent condition, buy no dust jacket - $5. Very cool.

'Pig, was this the Tulsa show? I'm headed there tomorrow, and I was wondering if there are any reloading components to be found.

I got a great deal on 2 75 round 7.62x39 drums for my unfired Egyptian Maadi for $27.50 a piece and the Maadi I inherited last year from my uncles estate after he passed and it came with 3 5 rounders and 4 30 rounders too also got 3200 rounds of 7.62x39 ammo to boot:D so think I'm set for a while

That kind of mirrors my observations at the last couple of gun shows I've been to. Gun prices, pretty much across the board are really high. And not just ARs; just about every high-capacity pistol, along with their magazines (AR mags too), are way up in the last 4 or 5 months. And then there's the $500 and $600 SKS rifles; why have they become so high priced?
Don't see all that many people buying though; actually I see more of the people attending the show trying to sell their ARs. Maybe their trying to cash in on the higher prices, or maybe their thinking such weapons will eventually be banned, so sell them now at a profit.
Not much in the way of deals on ammo, unless you consider $35 for reloaded .380 or $50 for the same in WWB to be a great deal. Almost no 7.62x39 to be found, and the prices of just about any .223 are up 20 to 30% over the last few months. I think a lot of gun and ammo buyers need to step back, take a deep breath, and just take stock of what they already have before taking off to stockpile even more of the same.

Gun show also in Huntsville.
I scored a Smith & Wesson M&P 40.
Nice gun.

Saw plenty of AR-15s, some Garands, M-1 Carbines, a civie P-90, a number of other "evil" rifles.
I didn't notice ammo -- don't usually buy ammo at gun shows.

Two good-looking Russian SKS were priced about $425 at the Memphis/Germantown show a week ago.

The manager of the best gun store in this entire area told me on the phone last week that because of such frequent gun shows around Memphis, incl. Southaven and Jackson, guns are not really selling right now.

Two weeks ago we went in a smallish local hunting/fishing store about 30 miles west of Nashville and there were five lonely 'AKs' huddled in the corner. It is only my impression that lately there are always plenty of WASR 'AKs' for sale.
I have only one theory why they seem to not be really $elling.
That store west of Nashville which sits right on the (north side) entrance ramp of I-40 also had about 800 rounds of Brown Bear x39 ammo in the purple boxes.

A friend who still shoots some with the Navy Rifle Team and closely watches the AR-15 situation said that those rifles have about reached their sales peak. People who buy them now to 'speculate' could end up being stuck with them.
Maybe the beginning of the buyers' market is slowly happening. When the news finally spreads, there will be some real price drops as sellers compete.

You guys are lucky. There was a show just 45 miles from me that I was going to attend today but a blizzard shut down all of the roads and I couldn't go. So, today was not a good day.

I went to a gun show in Ft. Lauderdale today. Lots of AKs and ARs available. Prices seem to be holding steady their and not as much interest in them as before.

The ammo situation though was ridiculous. Some ammo merchants set up a table and had cases of it on the floor. The line was wrapped around the table with people waiting to pay for it. I saw some guy ask for some .380. The merchant had 6 boxes of Tap for $30/50. The guy didn't blink and cleaned him out. I may have picked up some .223 but I had no interest waiting in line at a gun show to buy ammo.

SaxonPig, I meant no disrespect. I would not have guessed that a diminutive of your screen name would be offensive. I apologize.

Until buying slows down and ammo returns to shelves I'm staying away from gun shows for now. I honestly can see spending 5 to 7 dollars just to go looking.

from our new Socialist authorities in DC

Yeah, their "socialists".

Sheesh.

Unfortunately they're "our" Socialists

The Tulsa show had lots of high priced ammo but it was moving very fast. Every ammo table was swamped with 3-4 deep people surrounding the tables. 7.62x39 was $400 per thousand. Nothing surplus was cheaper than 25 cents per round. The cheapest ammo I saw was 7.62x54 at 25 cents per round. By 2pm almost all the .223 was gone and the 7.62x39 was only available in single 20 round packs.
This will be my last Tulsa show for some time - the crowds drove me crazy.

Gun Show's

Here in the Great Lake State everything has skyrocketed! Some ammo is really hard to find, lines lines, lines at the show,s. Have seen price's doubled and tripled on lot's of stuff!

IMHO I think there will be a lot of people stuck with overpriced assult weapons in the near future

I can't think of a better thing to be "stuck" with in this political atmosphere.

I urge, us especially, to not use the term "assault weapons". They already have enough bad publicity surrounding them.

I loaded up a few mags for my WASR10 a couple of weeks - they are still loaded. I'm sitting on a reasonable stash of AK ammo and given the supplies / prices can't bring myself to take it to the range.

Funny, I could remember when a trip to the range didn't make you break out in a cold sweat everytime you sent a round downrage at a target.

Yeah, their "socialists".

Sheesh.

Uh, yeah, they are socialists. They call themselves Democrats, but their policies are definitely socialist globalistic.

Tax the rich. Spread the wealth. Increase minority business loans.

Wake up.

Went to our gunshow yesterday. It comes to town about 6 times a year. There wasn't even elbow room. What little ammo was there was wiped out early. All manner of firearms were priced way high, even for a gunshow, which is usually inflated.

It was a miserable experience.

IMHO I think there will be a lot of people stuck with overpriced assult weapons in the near future, I am waiting for the good deals this fall

I hope you are right, but I'm betting against you by having already bought about everything I want that I could possibly afford (pre-Nov 4th).

There is some new stuff announced that I'd like, but can they actually get them on the market before they are banned?. Risky times for new investments in the gun biz right now.

If you can't see the alignment of the Dems in power, their appointees, and their shills in the media focusing on destroying our 2nd Amendment rights, you sir have your blinders on.
