Some things just shouldn't be done

I'm digging the folding stock on that other lever - that's actually pretty darn cool.

Yeah, I looked up folding lever guns as a joke and found that. You can see from the guy's post that it is actually useful. Not pretty, but useful! It could be a "truck gun" that would fit in some tight places.

I have to admit that I like it. I would lose the forward grip and go with a sight that is closer to the center of the bore, but I do like the idea.

Swap out the EOTECH for a Burris FastFire II and it would probably look and handle better while still giving the benefits of a dot type sight.

Here's the scope mount: http://www.xssights.com/index.php?nID=scopemounts&cID=Scope Mounts&pID=scopemounts

I've seen another version that used a stainless band that wrapped around the barrel, no tapping for threads.

Aimpoint 9000SC would look right: http://www.opticsplanet.net/aimpoint-9000sc-red-dot-sight.html

Black composite stock: http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduc...smithing - Stocks-_-PriceCompListing-_-634688 although an adjustable based on M4 components and a tri rail handguard would be better.

I don't know about that 9000SC on a lever gun. The lever gun is pretty slim and the Aimpoint is not. Perhaps an H1. Heck, even the little Bushnell micro would be cool.

Ah man, now you guys have me thinking. It wouldn't be hard to mill a mount for a Fastfire or some similar sight that would work in the dovetail for the rear sight. A tight friction fit and a couple of set screws should hold it in place. I'm getting the feeling that my 16" .357 might be going under the knife soon.

That's about as pleasant as walking in on grandma while she is getting out of the bathtub....

I think that falls in the same camp as the teenage kid who puts a racing stripe and loud pipes on a mini van.

To each his own and I hope it makes him happy, but it makes me sad to look at it!

I really want to sporterize a garand with either an ultimak or amega-ranges rail and a red-dot sight. A common response is "sacrilege." The way I see it, several million were made and they aren't all collectibles. Anyone with $595 can get a very nice garand from CMP so there obviously is no shortage.

I like it. As others have said, function over form is what that's all about. I think a smaller dot sight would look better, but I bet it get's the job done.

HUH............ WHAT ??????????????? :what:

Looks like Wyatt Earp meets Rambo....***? :uhoh:

But hey... Really... it's why Baskin and Robbins carries 31 flavors... so you CAN have what you want... it looks ... ah different.. probably not the first thing I would jump on if I came across it at a Gun Show... But hey, it does appear to meet a purpose and has some functionality..

I give it an 8 for creativity alone.. :neener:

As for the original posting where modern meets retro. It's not what I'd want but I don't have anything against it. I would definately want to fire some rounds through it to see how it felt.

Having said that, I have a strong liking for lever actions when I go social plinking or hunting. To the point, where often when I travel, all I typically have is my 30-30 lever action and one pistol. As such, I thought it would be a good idea to take a rifle class with it to learn it's limitations. People teased me since out of all the folks I was the only lever action and everyone else had semi autos. During the 4 days, I think I earned their respect when we went out to 400 yards and I hit the steel 24"x24" target 4 out of 5 times. Out at 200 yards, there was absolutely no speed advantage in a semi-auto over a lever action. However, in the steel plate shoot off 25 to 50 yards, follow up shots with the semi's were definately quicker.

Boy, the old saying "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" never rang truer,,
I dont own a lever-gun,but couldnt imagine doing THAT to one,,
To each his own i guess, im sure if i posted a pic of my Savage 93 .17 with "tactical" molded stock and suppressor I would get some jabs too..

I actually think it looks kinda cool. Id put an ACOG on top instead of the eotech though. Neat idea, and you have the peace of mind about not getting the action all dirty from the can

Redneck Fabulous?

Not quite.
To qualify for Redneck Fabulous it would need a Maglite and cheap laser sight duck taped to the barrel.
Then......... I would be happy to run some brass through it.

Not a bad try though!

To each his own, but I see no practicality in a setup like that.
First, for the life of me, I cannot understand why anyone would want to rely on a sight that depends on batteries to function. I mean who wants to carry batteries with them everytime they go hunting or shooting?
Second, if you look closely at the stock of the rifle, you'll see that it has lots of drop. This is because it was designed to be used with open sights. Anything resembling cheek weld is going to be impossible with this stock and that high mounted electronic sighting gizmo.
Third, the suppressor. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't they most effective on sub-sonic cartridges...of which the 30-30 is not?
35W

Hey, I'll bet it's a lot quieter than any suppressed semi-auto. If it is a 30-30, reload your own and you can drop the powder and up the bullet weight till it's subsonic.

I have to say, I really like the looks of that folding stock. I'll bet it would make a great pack gun. Actually, it kinda reminds me of an M-14 folding stock I saw a picture of a while back. I want to say the Italians made it but I could be wrong.

UM, ok, I wouldn't have done this but who knows maybe Billy the kid would have bought it. I have to admit it is creative, and I still wouldn't care to see the business end looking at me.

Ain't no one else at the range gonna have one of those.....

Gotta love american ingenuity.

Here's some more stuff that REALLY should never be done :(

Picked up some old Arisaka's to have for parts. This one was in the pile.

While I do admit, I don't think I would put something like that together on purpose, it does look like a great hog rifle. With some reduced loads you could sit under a feeder at night and really put a hurting on a number of them if the thing was quiet enough.

Sometimes things are more from necessity than anything else. Quit possible the can serves dual rifle function?? Don't know enough about the rules and regs on them to honestly say for sure. I do know that if your shots are not overly obtrusive, and the hogs hit the ground with out much to do, the rest will come right beck shortly and not pay much attention to the one laying over to the side.

FWIW, it isnt a 30-30, it's a 92 action (rossi at that, zero historical or collector value), so it's a pistol caliber.

A suppresor doesn't have to make a gun totally silent to be useful. If it takes the muzzle blast out of the picture, it's well worth it's trouble regarding size in my estimation. I wouldn't care about the bullets sonic crack, it isnt right by my ears. If there weren't so much intrusive paperwork to have them, I'd have several.

Unfortunately, they aren't legal to hunt with where I am either. I agree that the federal restrictions should be dropped, and they should be legal to hunt with. We have mufflers on cars, no reason we shouldn't on guns.
