Some times I wonder why I even keep my firearms.

I agree 100% No way am I going to bug out. I live in a brick cottage that was built in 1927. I inherented it when my folks passed. Solid shape. So, why would I leave. I'm not about to bug out. If the neighbors bug out I'll scrounge their homes for goods. At least I know the area. Traveling would be worse.

Look Audie, I don't know where you are, but if you're within a 2 hour drive of Knoxville, we can be friends. I gotta warn you though, I'm 43 so we may not have much in common at the beginning. I DO like guns though...
I appreciate the hospitality, but I'm in Colorado. Been here for 50 years. Thank you and all who advised me. I actually feel much better having discussed it with y'all.

Well, I'm 61 and live with one of my sisters in an old mobile home in a flood zone within five miles of Mexico, so bug-out bags make sense to me. Two at home, another two for the cars and one at work.
I've outlived all of my shooting buddies that I know about.
I've pretty much outrun the rest of my friends, having moved over fifty times.
I have no reason to give up any of my guns.
In fact, I'm still looking for a Garand.

Seriously! I have no REAL friends. I like to shoot and collect but, I'm 62 years old. All my friends are dead or have moved away. Sorta seems to me that if TSHTF, what the hell would I do? LOL.What is a 62 year old geezer gonna do?, REALLY? OH TO BE 35 AGAIN.:(

You are practically a spring chicken at 62. Slightly off-topic, but the oldest Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy served 44 years active duty, spanning 1882-1945. He didn't leave the Navy for the final time until he was 83 years old, and he volunteered again for active duty in 1950. He died in 1951.

Both of my grandfathers, and my step-grandfather worked at least part-time well into their 70s.

We're all going to die sometime. It's no one's fault but yours if you die miserable.

Appreciate that. However, I live in Colorado.
I'm your friend, and I assure you I'm real - I don't just exist on the internet.:)
I'm also 70, 8 years older than you, and don't feel I've reached "geezerhood" yet. Unless being a "geezer" means getting ticked off at a gun company every once in a while because they list a gun on their website that they're not really building. I won't go into it, but this time it's Ruger that's listing a gun I want on their website that they're not really building. But that's happened to me before with other gun companies, and even at 70 years old, I figure it will happen to me again. That is, I'll see a gun on some gun company's website that strikes my fancy, I'll try to find it for sale somewhere, only to find out that, unlike myself, it only exists on the internet.
Like I say, I'm ticked off at Ruger right now. But I'll get over it in a week or two, because in a "week or two" some other gun will have struck my fancy.:D
BTW, I don't know much about that "SHTF" stuff. I've never bought any guns for that.:uhoh:

One word: volunteer.

I am also 62, and retired from my "real job" at age 55. Involving myself in serving others as a volunteer keeps me too busy to feel sorry for myself. Yes, I have enjoyed the love of a good woman for more than 40 years now, have two good kids and six really fantastic grandchildren, but my life would be must poorer if I wasn't pouring it out into the lives of others.

For Y2K I stocked up on booze, smokes, and ammo. Figured with those three I could take or barter for anything else I needed......:)

OP, you've joined this great community, albeit online, however, there is kinship here. We are separated by geography, yet connected by interests.
You are NOT alone!

I'm one of the "young" ones here at 53. I'm in the AF Reserves, and given that I've been in uniform for nearly 36 years, I'm older than all but a couple of my guys.

My shooting group is a varied bunch ranging from some young 30something whippersnappers to a 60something retiree, and all sorts in between. We hail from different careers, ethnicity, and generations, but we all have one thing in common - we like to shoot.

So, find a range, meet some folks, make some friends and keep enjoying!

Oh boy, remember Y2K? The ATM's wern't going to work. There was going to be riots, civil discourse, oh wait. It's happening now! :cuss:
Yeah, I DO remember Y2K. I was an Instrumentation & Control Tech at an elemental phosphorus plant back then. They paid all of us Techs and Electricians time and a half just to stand by for 4 hours from midnight until 4 in the morning. They thought all of the computers were going to go berserk. Easiest 4 hours I ever spent at work, and I got 6 hours pay for it.:)

I'm younger than all of you and don't think any of you are old. Old is as old as you feel and think you are. And if you want to get rid of your guns, I'm gladly accepting donations.

Totally agree. I've been retired from the Federal government for more moons than I want to admit. I'm 70, still carry a gun everyday, go camping by myself and then carry a bigger gun:rofl: (plus two dogs) in the forests of Northern WY, ID, UT and Southern MT. And I hike the heck out of those areas and have run into bears, seen lions (probably been seen more time by lions) and have had great times doing so. Sometimes I meet up with a friend or two from MT or UT; throw axes, BS by the fire, etc. I have a few friends, most live in NC, TN and MI, a few in Southern UT, and one in MT.

So not sure why people are complaining. Like said by Hokie....YOU ARE AS OLD AS YOU FEEL. Get out, move about, take some long hikes, and if the **** hits the fan, just remember, you lived a long life, so don't complain when exiting. Remember, there were plenty of people known and unknown to yourself that exited before you.
