Trying to find a carry gun. I have a full size 45 SW for a car gun but is too heavy and unwieldy to try to carry concealed (I carried it concealed for a number of years, but it was a real pain in the butt). I don't mind a caliber switch maybe to 40.

I am considering the XD springfield, walther P99 and the HK compact. Any others worth looking at? Haven't excluded glocks, but having handled the others and shot them as well as a glock the glock grip never felt quite right in my hands. Had more trouble getting one target. Same with sigs, so those are out.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

3" Kimber or Springfield. Consider the EMP, although it is a 9MM. For cheap get a 3" GI or Mil Spec Springfield.

I have a Sig 239,a USP compact, and a Glock 32,but I carry my Taurus Mil Pro 140.It's smaller, lighter, and has a higher capacity for the size than some of the others.I know Taurus doesn't have quite the same reputation as the others, but that's due to the crap they manufactured a few years ago,not current production.Do a search on some of the main gun related sites, you'll find a lot of people are discovering Taurus all over again.Go fondle a PT145,the new Taurus SA/DA trigger is pretty awesome, sort of like a Glock with a D/A reset when the cartridge fails to ignite. They're as accurate as you'll need at self defense distances. If the 145 feels too thick, try a 745,it's a single stack (6+1) version. You won't be disappointed...

Walkalong, get the fiber optic front sight for your Elite Match,I just got one for my 40 Elite, all I can say is "WOW"...
