What's your pick for combat plastic semi-auto?

I'd have to go with "none of the above" and say an FN Forty-Nine or even a Five-seveN :evil:but most likely the Beretta 92FS or Springfield 1911 Mil-Spec.

For those that nominate the P99, why did you choose it? What features do you particularly like? As I've said, I have one but I'd like to hear your comments.

From my experience; I carry the G17 that I've had for 18 years now, I sold my HK USP because of it's girth and overall size, and I love my buddy's SIGPRO, so...I would go for the SIGPRO myself.

I would pick the P99 mostly due to ergonomics. Plus, I like the trigger a lot. The P99 fits my hand way better than the Glocks, the HKs, the SIGPro, the XD, or the Kahr. I don't really have any experience with any of the others.

But I also don't have any kind of combat experience, so I'm not sure how to judge "combat handguns."

I pick the one that I have the most confidence in, and the most proficient with...;)

I prefer polymer framed pistols for carry and have a few on your list. My favorite pistol is the HK USP .45 F. I like the features and love the caliber.

I go for HK USP's. Boringly reliable but a bit expensive.
Then I go for the Glocks. Boringly reliable and cheap.

Another vote for the P99.

Simple. It's probably the most disliked feature by almost everyone else on the planet: The magazine release!!!
I have really short thumbs!! So, reaching that durned button on the vast majority of pistols is a real pain!! That's why I sort have gravatated to the European heel release. The P99 is the only gun that I don't have to cock my wrist to dump the mag!!

For a fullsize pistol, the HK USP 45F without hesitation.
For a smaller carry pistol, G19/23 or Walther P99. As someone else mentioned here, I definitely prefer the mag release setup as found on the USP and P99 over anything else. I use the trigger finger to release the mag and am much faster changing mags this way than the conventional setup.

Glock 17, AKA "The Original" with a bevy of regular capacity mags.

Glock 19 or 26 as backup gun - they can share mags if needed.

I'd choose the SW99/45, essentially a Walther P99 made in the correct combat caliber.

USP-45. It can be carried cocked and locked. Combine that with it's larger DA trigger guard, I come up with an internal trigger guard circumfrance of 4.25", the largest trigger guard made for easy access with heavy gloves on. Next largest is the heavier EAA Witness with it's SA-style carry of 3.88", not bad but a LOT smaller than the USP-45. The Glcok 21 is only 3" which makes it pretty tough to get a good sized glove in there without having to worry about binding, trigger return problems or accidently firing off a round. Nope, I'll take my USP-45 any day over the others. ;)

Glock 34, night sites. Glock tac light. 3 and a half lbs trigger. No extended mag release. High cap mags.

Yessss exellent.
