Has anyone tried one of these on a Hawken style muzzleloader? I have a Pedersoli Rocky Mt hawken, .54, percussion. The old eyes need a little help, was wondering how it might work out. Thanks in advance!

For the older eyes their is an optical lens fixture that improves the sight picture that can be installed in these style of rear sights avaliable from The Bob Jones sight company. I dont use one on a muzzleloader, but I have one installed on a Montana Vintage sight on a Remington rolling block and it's fantastic.

I too have an aperture type sight on my rolling block, it's set for 400 yards at the moment. I really like it. I don't know who the maker is, I got it from TOW about 12 years ago for shooting silhouette black powder cartridge.

As an alternative to the soule type sight, I believe Lyman and Marbles make a 'tang type sight for muzzleloaders. Not having any experience with that configuration of sight on my muzzleloaders I cant realistically offer an opinion as to their useability but see no reason that it wouldnt work. Unless I was using the rifle for extended distance shooting with conical bullets I think that a sight with a large elevation adjustment might be a little over what I could need for a hunting set up, with out any other information, I only presume thats the use your going for.

You can always go to a peep with a larger hole for quick acquisition . Or, there is a item that attaches to your glasses to make open sights clear. Not sure what they're called, but sure someone here will chime in and say what they're called. I think the better one is called a merit master disk.

The Merit Disk that Paul is recommending, is available from Champion's Choice online catalog, from LaVernge, TN. They supply competition shooting supplies.

I recommend it as well to sharpen up sight picture. It has an adjustable iris like a camera lens aperture.
