I picked up a late 70's model Wingmaster a few years ago for a great price. It is a 12 gauge 3" magnum receiver. It has a 30" fixed full choke barrel and I am wanting to get a new barrel for it. I like the barrel and don't want to have it modified in anyway.

My birthday is coming in March and I am wanting a new barrel that will accept screw in chokes. I would like a 26-28" with a vent rib. I also want it to look like it belongs on a Wingmaster. I know I can get one from Remington, just wondering if there were any other sources to get a new quality barrel. I like to have options. I know there is always e-bay, armslist, etc. However it is a
non-gun person who will be buying this for me, so I need to be able to give them an item number and a website or phone number.

Thanks

I guess I wasn't clear. I know that I can get a Remington barrel, thanks for the links though. I was wondering if there was anyone else who made a quality barrel for a Wingmaster. Nothing against Remington, I just like to have options.

The only two that I know of are Carlson's and Mossberg. I'm almost certain that Carlson's doesn't make blued barrels, and Mossberg seems to only make a 24" rifled barrel and an 18" smoothbore barrel. Remington is really your best bet.

Note that when buying a new barrel for a Wingmaster, you need to get a Wingmaster barrel, not an Express barrel.

The Wingmaster barrel has the magazine cap retention plunger in the front face of the barrel support ring.
The Express has no retention plunger and uses a different system to retain the cap.

The Express barrel itself will fit and work, but the cap will not stay put on a Wingmaster.

I don't believe that is correct. The newer 870's all have the locking piece in the magazine tube, except for the ones that have extended magazines from the factory. Those, and the older 870's, have the detent in the barrel ring face.

The finest barrel for the Wingmaster is Remington 'Light Contour' variety. They have very deep blackening that isn't going to match bluing on 70s receiver perfectly. Second best would be fully rifled barrel made in France and once sold by Hastings.

I just wish there was a source for a wingmaster barrel that didn't cost what a whole used gun does. I've wanted to put a new barrel on a stubby wingmaster I inherited for years but can't justify the dough.

go to a few gun shows,i see them from time to time at little shows, but many at the bigger shows and they are reasonably cheap. i bought a short rifle sighted 870 barrel for 50.00 and a 1100 rem barrel with vent rib and RC for 100.00 and they were in ex condition. eastbank.

New production Remington barrels might have rough chambers, so be prepared for the possibility that it will have to be polished. It's a simple DIY or as a small gunsmithing professional assignment. Factory 870 Express unit barrels are often reported with rough chambers.
