Sportsman's Guide finally delivers

I would expect that from Sportsman's Guide, I've always found them to be an honorable company.

Cheaper Than Dirt, :barf:

Pretty good company. This happened several years back. I ordered 5 cases of Wolf 7.69X39 at 99 dollars a case of 1,000 rds. Received a notice stating that they were on backorder. Every couple of months I would be asked if I wanted to keep the items on back order. I said yes. This went on for a bit more than a year. Meanwhile the price of a case had jumped to about 250 bucks. When the order was shipped I was billed at the 99 dollar per case price.

I have a different opinion of Sportsman's guide.

Quite a few years back, I ordered 2K of .223.
I was sent a confirming email of the order.

Two weeks later, by snail mail, I get a letter informing me that the price had increased substantially and by submitting the difference, my order would ship.

I called and after some discussion with a rep, I asked for a supervisor.

The super didn't care that I had a confirming email and told me it was their policy that pricing could change and purchasers had to pay the increase.

I informed them that I could understand a price increase but not after having received the order confirmation. The rep offered me some kind of $10 gift certificate. I declined stating that I felt the company should stand by the confirmed price. I was then offered a $20 gift. This still wasn't at the originally confirmed price.

I told them to cancel, that I buy a lot of ammunition but would never, ever deal with them again and won't.
They had and have good prices but I will never buy there again.

I don't know what to say I've no association with SG other than as a generally satisfied customer, but a quite few years ago ammo prices didn't fluctuate wildly, perhaps it was a web site error. I've heard of companies honoring ridiculously low prices on website errors just for the good PR, too bad SG didn't do so for you.

Another possible reason for the glitch was a while back the parent company was sold, may have taken the new owners a while to realize they would be destroying the value of what they bought for minimal gain with such actions.

But at the end of the day, unless you've found an ammo source cheaper than or equal to SG you are cutting off your nose to spite your face by "never buying from them again".

Only issue I've ever had with them is if I order "too much" ammo for their $19.95 shipping charge they sometimes try to hit me up for extra shipping at a much higher rate, in which case I cancel the order. I then reorder in multiple orders as long as case of ammo + $19.95 - $10 coupon is less than the competition -- often is, so I've got a lot of ammo from them over the last 10+ years.

I've also had good luck with returning stuff that turned out to be crap, if you contact them they'll Email a FedEx or UPS prepaid return shipping label. They seem to be playing FedEx against UPS lately as some recent stuff has come via FedEX some other via UPS, used to always be UPS which gives much better service at my address than does FedEx.

The key to getting ammo on-line is the total $ammo + S&H + tax(if any). In stock is good but unless I'm totally out, these days I'm happy for a back order that "locks in" a price, as ammo availability improves if prices sink enough I can cancel any higher priced backorders.

My most amusing return was a 10-pk of "used" Yugo AK mags for $60. One had a bullet hole in the side! The other few I looked at were so deformed the bottom plate popped off when I compressed the spring. Returned them for a refund, no problem. Such happens with "true surplus".

Wally, Perhaps you are correct in the "cutting off my nose to spite my face" statement, however, it rubbed me wrong very badly on how they ended this transaction that I will, in fact, pay more than give them my money. That's just me and maybe some others.

I no longer have the paperwork on my end as to the actual date but figure it to be about 8 or 9 years ago. The listed price was a very good price. A price mistake, I believe, would have been caught during the initial transaction and before confirmation.

The fact that the super very quickly offered up to $20 to get it done instead of the $50+ or more ( I don't remember the exact amount) that was advertised.
You would think to keep a customer happy all that was required would have been to honor the advertised price or inform me of a mistake prior to confirmation.
I think what upset me was the letter mailed a few weeks after an Email confirmation.

The way it was dealt with was bothersome enough that I will continue to not deal with them again.

Many, as in this thread, rave about what a stand up company this is. Good for everyone and I hope their experiences continue. I just don't see it that way.

My only neg with SG had to do with their packaging. Several years back I ordered a dozen boxes of Magtech .454 Casull along with two .30 cal ammo cans of the Greek .30-06 in Garand clips. It was all put into one regular cardboard shipping box, with a bit of padding.

Naturally the heavy ammo cans rattled around, and ultimately thrashed the shipping box and the boxes of ammo.

Before my house, the UPS driver pulled up to deliver at the local High School. He told me than when he opened the rear roll up door, a cascade of bullets fell off of the shelf in his truck and poured out into the parking lot. He scrambled to pick it all up as the local school fraus clucked about in disgust at the sight of evil bullets tarnishing their campus. When he got to my house and we got done cracking up at the whole affair, I was only missing one .454 round.

Other than this one incident; SG has been good to me.

I'll add my name to the list of people who've never had a bad experience with Sportsman's Guide. Sorry to read that some have, though. Such is the nature of business, I suppose.

I've experienced this too, its annoying but as long as everything arrives and nothing gets broken, I can live with it. Each order has the "packer" listed in the Email shipping confirmation, you can give them feedback to straighten out the guy that got a bit careless in packing.

Look for something like this:
Qty Product Size Color Description Status/Tracking
2 421183-000-000 500RD .223 55GR FMJ AMMO Shipped on 09/25/13 (Packed by Jose Silva)

I personally never had a problem with SG.
Last December I ordered 1K of 9mm at 21c a piece and after got email - it back-ordered. Several emails later came and asking if I wont to keep this in my order, I replayed yes. This July my shipment finally came and price did not changed!
