Sportsman's Warehouse & Concealed Carry

The sign at our Sportsmans Warehouse in Roanoke VA says rifles should be unloaded and you should unload and clear the chamber of your CCW only if you plan to remove it from the holster.......seems fair to me.

I saw that sign last weekend at the SW in the Springs. I assumed that CCW was exempt, so I ignored it and went in. I made that assumption because I once saw a similar sign at the SW in Aurora with a note specfically exempting CCW.

Desk jockey, maybe next time you go you could make a complaint. If enough people do maybe they'll change the sign.

In Colorado if the owner of a business asks you not to carry in their business and you do anyway, you can be charged W/ criminal tresspass ( bye-bye CHP)

In order to post "No CCW Allowed" EVERYONE entering the building must be required to go through a metal detector.

So that sign really doesn't have the weight of law, but should CSPD get a "Man W/ Gun" call to that store they WILL use a sign like that against you .

Yes I am WELL aware that it doesn't make sense , it's a CSPD thang , you wouldn't understand.

DON'T TAZE ME BRO!

Treo did not think my post was relevant.

Because it bothered treo, I removed it.

Sorry treo.

Ok CH bein's you're a cop what would be your take on the above mentioned signage

The sign at our local Sportsman's Warehouse is considerably clearer:

Maybe they are in the process of updating them?

Some of you guys actually read the signs on the doors of retail establishments?

I'm so glad I live in this state ...

I was a little stinker on Wednesday, I went into Sportsman's Wharehouse after reading this thread and I was carrying concealed.

Maybe these signs are like those pictures with the 3D imagine hidden in them, some people see it, and some people need to have it explained to them.

Given all the circumstances I'd take those signs for just what they are, a friendly reminder not to bring in a weapon to be serviced if its loaded and waiting for a ND.

Cabela's in Connecticut has the same sign, although in much larger letters below it, it makes it clear that the policy DOES NOT apply to legal CCW'ers. I can't recall the exact language, although it is not at all uncertain.

They may be expensive, but between that and the Bargain Cave pricing, I'll support them as long as they support us.

I went today and carried openly.

Has anyone else seen similar signs @ SW? Had similar experience

Also is there anyone who would NOT have taken that sign to mean what I thought it meant?

Exact same sign in Loveland, CO. I assumed that it did not mean CCW, but I wasn't positive so I asked. There wasn't any backpedalling, she just told me that it did not apply to CCW.

I don't have a problem with the sign for a couple of reasons. First, many sporting goods stores have this policy. Gander Mountain, Bass Pro Shop and Cabelas. People bring in guns that are not "CCW guns" all the time. It may be legal to carry, and it may be legal to open carry, but I know of no place where it is legal to walk around with a loaded rifle or shotgun as a carry weapon. Thus, it makes complete sense to me that if you walk in the store with a rifle or shotgun that you check it in at the front desk and that they confirm it is clear. Secondly, if tagged by CS, you have have the stores assurance that they know your not trying to steal a rifle when you walk out. Third, that store is private property. You guys can rail about "concealed means concealed" all you want, but it is there right to control what comes into that building.

Reading Comprehension Anyone?

Do you remember those tests they make you take in school? The test where you have to read a paragraph then tell them what it
means? I scored pretty high on those, and when I see a sign that says "ALL firearms must be unloaded, " I don't see any words in the sentance that modify "ALL". They only way I can interpret that sentance is that EVERY firearm that comes through the door must be unloaded.
For being a state W/ some pretty liberal gun laws there are a lot of people in Colorado ( at least the Springs) who FREAK OUT when they see a gun. There are also a couple of gun guru / gun god types that work behind the counter at that PARTICULAR SW, the type who think nobody but them is qualified to own a firearm. ( kinda like some of the cops that post here).

Given those circumstances should I choose to ignore what the sign actually says ( as in interpreting it to mean what I want it to say) and proceed about my business while carrying ( all the while fuming about how the property owner, whose right not to allow anyone to carry in his store I'm ignoring, is violating MY right to self defense) I am ASKING for trouble in the unlikely event that someone notices that I am carrying & chooses to call the cops.

Add to the mix , the fact that I seem to be one of that rare breed ( at least around here) who respects the property rights of others. if THE WORDS ON THE SIGN tell me that I can't carry a loaded firearm in your store I'm going to respect that, you'll lose my business but I will respect your wishes.

Why should I not want the sign to be a little clearer?

QUOTE: "Deport ALL illegal aliens! "
Of course that doesn't apply to CONCEALED illegal aliens right?

I for one have no intentions of handing my personal carry weapon over to some young kid behind a counter or any other stranger for that matter. If by some remote possibility it was noticed I was armed I would just leave with no arguments. Not worth the hassle to me!!:p

Turner's Outdoorsman, a Southern California gunstore chain, has a sign that says "All guns are to be unloaded and checked by employee", but, right underneath that in little letters it says "CCW excluded".

One thing good that I can say about California is that if you have a CCW you can practically carry it anywhere - there are none of those signs saying that it is against the law to carry in such'n'such establishment.

No signs in the Pittsburgh, PA Sportsman's Warehouse. I'm generally armed like a Mexican bandit. No need to unholster unless some miscreant is trying to kill me.

Here in TN those signs are not legal so I do not mind them. However I was asked one time to check mine at the front by the guy behind the knife counter.
