A week ago I bought me a Sprinfield XD 9mm standard model after seeing my cousin get one but His is 45 ACP. I chose to get the 9 for more accuracy and weight issues. The reason I am righting is I have the need to tell everyone abut it. It is a good gun and is smaller in length to he Glock 17. Its has many saftey mechanism on it. Which are fine except for the back saftey on the hand grip it can get agitating. It fights you somewhat when you put your hand on the grip. It is also hard to find accessories for it, especially holsters. The accuracy is fine but I get better accuracy from a glock 17. Overall I give it a 4 out of 5. I would like to see others reply to this thread and tell me what they think of the new pistol so others can really see if they want one.

Hey Desert Scorpion....

Welcome to the High Road.... Thanks for your review of the XD-9. There has been alot discussion on this firearm. Go to the search function type in XD-9... You will be amazed...... Yes, I agree it is a good gun and I have a G17 as well.

Enjoy....:D

don't be a sissy tighten up that grip, you control that gun and you tell it what to do.:)

BUt as far as my review of the gun, i have a 4" service model and it is the best handgun that I have ever owned and the easiest for me to use! i love them and will get another soon. i am a life long sa customer. if you use the search function you will see plenty post on here from me about all the praise i give the xd and sa.

The accuracy is fine but I get better accuracy from a glock 17.
question, how much have you shot the xd and how much have you shot the glock? i would be the opposite. i shoot xd's way more and i am more comfortable with the xd and shoot better with them. put a few 1000rds through there and see if you change your mind!

here is my take on the whole xd, glock thing.
These are my personal opinions and by no means are true for everyone, but these are the reasons that I prefer the xd to the glock!

Grip angle- xd more comfortable, feels better in my hands.
Grip girth- I have small hands so something I can wrap my hands around is important.like the xd.
Finger groves- don’t like them don’t think I need them.
Guide rod- metal instead of plastic
Metal sights-unlike glock
Factory sights- 3 dot sights are better for me than the glock u type sights
XD gear- xd comes with holster, double mag carrier, and loading tool, and three mags glock does not.
Metal trigger- xd has metal trigger, glock has plastic.
Trigger pull- trigger all around better on the xd.and gets better with time.
Xd has a Fully supported chamber, glock dosen’t
xd mags are ss, and easy to disassemble, and clean.

I'll take an XD over a Glock any day. I have two XD's and like them a lot. I've never fired a Glock that I like. Both are good guns and you should buy whichever you prefer, but I like the XD.

Dont get me wrong the XD is great and very neet looking compared to the glock. And I have actually shot more rounds out of a Glock then I have the new XD so Maybe I will shoot it more and see. It is 100% better than the glock though especially the fact that it fit's right into my hand. I love it and it is well made. Mine has the tridium night sights on it and they work wanders at night.;) I would recommend it over any other pistol and I have them all. I will say though I still really like the good old german luger.

I don't own an xd-9 but I've shot my friend's several times. It has always functioned perfectly, even on my handloads that were kind of "light" and did not function correctly in my own gun (browning HP).

It made me want one for myself :)

i am not trying to hijack the thread but i am brand new to the world of firearms and just picked up an XD 9 based on info i read on this site and others. it is my first firearm. i just put my first 100 rounds thru it today and it was awesome- very comfortable, light, easy to handle, very user friendly (for a novice like myself that is important) and with what seemed to me to be very little recoil. i can't speak for accuracy b/c i am not aware of my bad habits vs. the pistols performance yet. but, i did hit the bullseye once. :D overall, it handled very nicely and, while i am far from an expert, it feels like a very well built and high quality piece. i think i invested my $ in the right thing. i'm already thinking about a .45.

I purchased an xd-9 a couple of weeks ago, and I absolutely love it. Right now my only issue is that it's so damn stubborn when I'm loading the mag, which is probably why they threw in the mag loader.

congrats on the xd and welcome to THR, yeah those xd mags are pretty tuff but they get broke in after a while, i wish they would have had the mag loaders included when i got mine!

Thanks for the warm welcome. Not to jack this thread, although my question is in regards to the XD-9; what's a good ammo to use? I simply asked for some bullets at the range, not really knowing which brand was good, and the guy gave me a box of Fiocchi fmj 115gr. I've shot about 600 rounds of these and haven't had any problems, but I was just curious if Fiocchi is a decent brand to use?
To my knowledge these are lead based bullets, which are a b*tch to clean...although I haven't really had too much trouble cleaning my XD thus far.

2ndAmendment

Go with some winchester or umc or any other major brand in a FMJ. It is much, much easier to clean and I have found that cost in a 9mm for FMJ ammo is excellent. I know, I shoot .45 and .40 and get jealous over the 9mm prices. Try loading the mag in a Taurus 24/7, I now have steel thumbs! I love my XD mags in comparison.

Have a good one!
