Ok, so far for every question ive asked on this forum you guys have been great, and provided me with good info. So here goes another.

I finally got to bring my recently returned from gp100 to the range yesterday. Along with trying out my freshly painted sp101 sight (ordered a fiber optic when I got home last night!! Lol!) The barrel fix by ruger was spot on and got my rounds centered up on the bullseye ,perfect!

Anyways during the range session and alternating between the gp and sp I notice how my gp's trggger is waaayy nicer especially double action and the hammer takes about 1/3 less force to draw back single action. I know the sp is new and not really broken in,about 100 rounds through her. Im not complaining about it because I do still like the trigger and it works just fine. However it me thinking about the gp. I bought it used, qnd ruger said it was a little bit older but didnt get a specific mfg date. so im guessing its broken in nice but also maybe someone has done some spring/trigger work on it. I have no idea what the trigger is or what hammer weight is,nor do I have a measuring device . My only concern is possible light primer strikes in the future. Ive shot fed 158gr jsp .357 mags, and rem 158/125grain .38 special +p's through it without a problem. Is there a particular brand of ammo I can get with harder primers to test out my hammer spring reliability? Any other things I should look into? Thanks!

The GP100 has a much nicer trigger than the sp101, even when not broken in. The better trigger isn't necessarily an indicator that anything has been done to it. The difference is night and day between the two. Beyond that I can't offer any advice. Best of luck.

Similar spring weights, but shorter lever arms - it's natural for the SP trigger to not be as light and short as the GP.

That said - the SP can easily be made to work 100% reliably with the lightest springs available in the Wolff, Wilson, or IMSI spring kits. It may require a little tuning - as Ruger's "voodoo" is to use excessive spring power to overcome tolerance stacking. There's plenty of force in the lighter springs when the internals are running as they should.

That said, it's obligatory to acknowledge the increase in lock time, but frankly, it's a distinction without a difference.

What is better still is to have a smith correct the sear angle to neutral, run a HEAVIER mainspring, then a lighter trigger reset spring, which decreases lock time, decreases trigger pull weight, and maintains sear security - and if the smith is worth his salt, will reduce the grit and felt creep of the trigger travel.

Well that makes sense why the gp has a better trigger. I just need to shoot the hell out of my sp and get her broken in. But my main concern is the gp possibly having had a lighter spring installed by the previous owner. Its been fine so far .Is there a factory ammo with a "harder" primer I can pick up a few boxes of to ensure the gp goes bang everytime? Its tigger is very smooth, if I had to put a heavier spring and maintained its smoothness to make sure it did go bang every time I would not mind.

This is more of a id like to find out situation. Like I said no problems so far and am very happy with it. Dont plan on sending either to a smith unless im having an issue with it. Moving next month ,gfs and brothers bdays coming up,so there goes most of my extra cash. dont plan on having any sort of action work being done until next year if anything.

Ordered up a box of blazer 158gr jhp,and picked up a box of pmc 158 jsp. I asked the gun store clerk if he had any idea of any brands know for harder primers and he looked at me like I had three heads and said he would have to ask the other guy.. He was wondering why I cared if I havent had any issues. Told him just to satisfy an itch and you never know what the last guy did to a used gun. This is my HD gun so its a piece of mind not having to worry about it. Also gives me an excuse to send more rounds down range!

Just to bring this up, I have to wolf spring kit in my SP101 and it makes a phenomenal difference. I use the lighter of the two hammer springs in the kit and have 100% reliability with all primers tested. I also polished all the mating parts inside the action.

I've been considering a Wolff Spring kit for my SP101. I think I'll go for it.
