XDs ROCK!
The XDs are an excellent line of pistols. They are extremely reliable and incredibly durable. The ergonomics seem to be great for almost everyone. They are exceptionally accurate for a weapon with the XD's level of reliability. Accuracy and reliability are generally a balancing act: The tighter and more accurate it gets, the less reliable. The looser and less accurate the more reliable. (Think AR vs. AK.) An XD is a lot like an AK in it's reliability. You have to try very, very hard to make one
not work. It will eat anything you feel like feeding it: From mud covered steel cased crap to milsurp junk with cosmoline and dents all over it, to bare cast lead made from old wheel weights. From very low powered practice ammo to +P+ and beyond they gobble it up in stride. And yet the accuracy of the XD is still excellent. My 45 Compact is certainly more accurate than I am. In my defense, I've only put about 50k rounds down range in my lifetime so I'm pretty much a total novice with handguns.
I too believe the lack of law enforcement use of XDs in the USA is due to Springfield's refusal to sell parts. If it needs work, you gotta send it back to Springfield.... But their customer service department is one of the best. I've yet to hear of Springfield charging a customer to fix an XD, no matter how old it was, what broke, or how it got broken. XDs seem to have a more-or-less unlimited lifetime warranty. I've only got about 4,000 rounds through my XD45 Compact without so much as a hiccup. There are lots of guys with 15k rounds without a malfunction and a few that are past 25k without one. I know one guy that put 10k rounds through an XD45 Service model without even cleaning it!
If the XD isn't the most reliable handgun ever produced it's got to be "right there".
I think most of us already knew that it's not the original Springfield Armory and that this pistol is produced in Croatia. It even says, "Springfield Inc. Geneseo, IL. Made in Croatia" right on the side. My question is: Who cares? I don't care where it was made, who made it, or what name is on it. For me it's
exactly the right tool for the job.
