Just recently picked up a springfield M1A scout and it was a bit of an impulse buy. It was always something I knew I wanted to get eventually and was kind of on the back burner for a while so I hadn't really researched it before I bought it but am now reading a lot of bad reviews on the springfield and seeing that a lot of people are reccomending polytechs and LRB custom jobs. I just dumped a lot of money into this purchase and would hate to think I would have faired better with something half the cost or equal to? Was this purchase really that big of a mistake

No.

You'll read on the internet of people with problems, not the people who got good ones.

An LRB may be nicer but last I checked they were $2500 and up. As for Norinco/Polytech, they are reportedly decent but need some gunsmith work (often a new bolt) and once brought up to par are only a little cheaper than a new SA M1A - and they are still a Chinese import.

No.

Amazing that the 8 1/2 people who own LRBs have managed to make the shooting public feel that guilty for buying mere Springfields.

You did just fine with your scout squad. Shoot it and make sure it's reliable for you and that's all you need to know.

I agree. You need to consider the person who makes the review as well as the product.

I sell alot of stuff online from different websites. I have had people say that website A has a better product than website B - the items come out of the exact same bin!
