Springfield XD-E

Appendix carry has grown in popularity and most of the folks who use that method want a gun sporting a hammer. This accounts for some of that unknown number.

The P938 sells somewhat okay, so that's the market. In addition, look how _every_ maker of 1911 rushed a 9mm version in the recent months. Hopefully, SA and others have a network of captive LGS that report sales to them. Sadly, that data is obviously private.
I feel fairly certain that Springfield (and any other manufacturer for that matter) performs market research before releasing any new product. I'm sure if you contacted their marketing department they would share some of that with you. But all one has to do is search a few threads right here on DA/SA and you will see lots of fans of that configuration.
Less than the majority (as proven by Glock and S&W), more than zero (as proven by Sig). Which is why it's good that guns like this are offered. Nobody says it should be the only gun on the market, but serving minority segments of the market is a good thing.

I want this gun, though I'd want it more if it didn't say "GRIP ZONE" on the grip.

I agree there's a market, and I'm mildly interested myself, though like Mitlov I would be more interested without GRIP ZONE.

I'm just mildly peeved at all the articles and reviews trying to tell me that "all the people" have been waiting for whatever the new hotness being peddled is.

I'm "all the people" too. Gimme one now!

Grip Zone me baby! Love me some new bullet hose...

I have seen quite a number of folks appendix carrying both on shooting shows and real life and have never seen a single DA/SA user. Glocks, Shields and XDs are all I've seen.

For the XDe, my only use for single stack 9s is pocket carry, so this isn't marketed for me. IWB I'll take a double stack 9mm or 1911 in .45.

This is true for me to. I think a lot of it has to do with a lot of da/sa carry guns having a bearvertail and carrying appendix with a beavertail grip tang isn't pleasant for anybody, I don't care what body shape you have. When you sit you literally get stabbed in the stomach and boy it's not a good way to spend time out to eat. This xde doesn't have that problem, but I'm just perplexed of why this thing weighs more than a glock 19 or p2000, both double stack compact handguns.

In an attempt to resolve your perplexedness I went to H&K's website. They list the weight of the P2000 as 24.96 ounces, the 2000SK is listed at 24.00 ounces. The XD-E weighs in at 25 ounces. So the P2000SK comes in at a whopping 1.000000 ounces less than the XD-E and the P2000 slides in at .04 ounces less than the XD-E. What was Springfield thinking?

Let's look at it this way, one US dime weighs in at .05 ounces, 5 US Quarters and 1 US Dime equal one full ounce. So if I was carrying the P2000SK (and 9 total rounds of ammo) when I went to McDonalds to get my sausage burritos for breakfast and I paid with a $5.00 bill I could pocket the change and still only be carrying an equal amount of weight as the XD-E. Good to know, I was worried I was going to have to pass on the hashbrowns.

And no, I didn't forget about the G19, I excluded it since it is not a DA/SA hammer fired pistol so probably not in the running for someone comparing apples to apples.

Maybe the XD-E comes from the factory already loaded. Marketing stunt.

Well first of all I know exactly how much these guns weigh so there was no need for you to post the exact weights of each gun from the websites, but thanks for wasting your time. That's why I mentioned each gun as lighter weight firearms. Your story of burritos and hash browns was very insightful, but expected from a Springfield Armory fanboy non the less. As a matter of fact that story kind of made me want a breakfast burrito and hash browns, so thanks again. No matter how many dimes, nickels, and quarters are in your pocket that 8 round Springfield xde will always weigh more than the other guns mentioned in this thread. Some reason there's this myth that just because someone likes striker fired guns or hammer fired guns that they won't explore both options. Me as well as many others I know like, carry, and buy both striker and hammer fired guns. While this is a different firing mechanism than the striker fired guns, it's still in the concealed carry genre. I also carry small revolvers sometimes to. How's those apples to apples for you? This forum is a friendly forum from my understanding, so if you want to make smart comments and be keyboard condescending why don't you go to YouTube with that where it's welcomed and praised upon. The Springfield xde is the shallow hal of the gun world. Looks small and thin, but is heavy in reality. Have fun with your xde and enjoy Americas oldest name in firearms history and gun company to sell out the 2nd amendment while defending your legacy. The beretta px4 sub compact is a whopping 25.2 ounces as well for a 13+1 9mm da/sa concealed carry handgun, .2 ounces more than the xde or about 4 dimes more for the story problem type. Well it's not single stack so that would be apples to oranges as well I guess. The xde is heavy for class, no matter what fanboys say. With that said I do think it's probably a good gun, just not for me.

Actually, I'm more of a Sig fan even though I own more Rugers than any other brand. My primary carry pistol is a P239. It's quite a bit heavier than any of the pistols mentioned so far so when I carry it I have to leave all my loose change at home.

Well I might be in the minority here, but I'm more concerned about comfort when I carry, and I find single stacks to be much more comfortable. So despite the XDE weighing close to the same as this gun and that gun, I'm happy having similar capacity in something more comfortable. As of now, one the most comfortable guns to carry I own is the Ruger SR1911 CMD 9mm. It feels lighter than any other alloy framed 1911 I've held in my hand, and it's been perfectly reliable. In the event the XD-E fits my hand well, and I find the trigger decent, I'll get one to replace the 1911 for carry use and keep it as a range plinker. :)
