Springfield XD Problem

I have 4 XD's currently.

Tactical 9mm
Tactical 357 sig
Tactical 45 acp
Service 40 S&W

All have at least 1,000 rounds through them. And only one of them has ever had a problem. And that was the tactical 9. In the course of the first 500 rounds, I had quite a few failure to feeds. I sent the gun into the custom shop to be checked out. Of course they ran 600 rounds through it without a single issue. So, it was either the ammo (115gr UMC), or it needed to be broken in more. I am leaning towards the ammo. They also did a competition action job on it, and it is now my favorite shooter. Trigger pull in now down to 3 1/2 pounds, and really shines on the range. That is the ONLY issue I have had with them what so ever. Good luck

My One and only gun is an XD 40 Tactical and I absolutely love it one cool thing that nobody mentioned is that there is no need to perform a press check in the dark because if there is a round in the chamber there is a tiny little fin that pops up atop the slide very small but you can feel it with your hand my only beef with the XD is that the slide lock is not ambidextreous the mag release however is

Bought an XD45 and an XD9SC several months ago. I am retired and have my own gunrange set up on my farm. Spend a lot of time there so I have put 5-6 hundred rounds through each. Have not had a problem to date. Very, very reliable and more than reasonably accurate. I have had a lot of fun with each of the XD's and, based on my personal experience, would recommend them highly.:D

I own 2, the 4" and the 3" in .40.

Excellent guns.

Cons:

Both of mine are less than 100% reliable. They occassionally fail to eject, maybe 1% of the time.

Finish tends to wear easily on the blued version, when holstered and worn CCW.

Absolutely love my XD45 . . . . .but you asked about problems. :)

The only "nit" I have about my XD45 is that it doesn't like low power short COL LSWC reloads. I think I've worked out a recipe that it does like, but the lightweight 1911 target loads weren't really compatible. I can't say that it's unexpected in a "Service" pistol as it's intended to shoot defense loads and on that it's absolutely 100% reliable and very accurate.

Have a good one,
Dave

Croation, actually.
*smacks forehead*

My bad. Thanks for catching that. Fixed it in my original post.

Now I have to go ask my XD-45 Tactical to forgive me.

I have put 3000 + round's through my XD45 Tactical & after a few break in issues (FTE,stovepipe) it's been great.
My only other issue with XD's is that I've had a 9mmTac on order for 10 week's & it still isn't here!

There doesn't seem to be a lot of demand for the tacticals and the supply is a bit limited. I tried to find a 9mmTac recenly and nobody within driving distance had one. The Croat's are building Service models so fast they must not have time to build many Tac's. Bud's Gun Shop has a black 9mm Tac listed in their on-line inventory but it only comes with 10rd mags.

I am glad to hear all the accolades for the XD-45 ACP, I expect to pick mine up today! I have been waiting several weeks for this gun, they are sure hard to come by!

Cheers! M2

How good is the XD-45....Well let me just say I am glad it was NOT my first handgun.....it would be my only handgun.....YES it is that good!!!! I have had many fine handguns and still have some.

The only problem is the amount of ammo that I go through shooting my .40 Tactical. I really need to get another press to start loading .40. I had one failure to feed out of 1000"s of round that on closer inspection was due to the round not the gun (the round was bulged.). The finish on my gun is still almost like new. Honestly, the only problem I've encountered is that none of the local gun stores, one of which stocks just about everything, carries mags or recoils springs, so I have to order them on line. I'm looking for a tactical 9mm now...

Had one for awhile the only real problem i have had is with the sharp corners on the magazines. I have cut myself a few times but other then that not a thing. I am still waiting to find a two tone for my dad.

Finally had a problem with my XD

I had the slide lock back early on me twice on saturday. Not a big deal becasue it was at a steel challenge match and the worst time on each stage gets dropped anyway. My fault for bringing a couple brand new mags (XD gear) without test firing them first. Needless to say that mag is range only now. I guess that's really not a gun problem....

I own an Xd-45 Tactical with 500 rounds through it w/no problems.

I did read about people locking XD's up while re-assembling them incorrectly though. If the take-down pin is out of the frame, the slide reinstalled and "racked", the spring and guide cam jump off the retaining notch on the barrel if they were misaligned. Getting eveything unlocked requires a trip back to the factory or some beating with a rubber mallet.

However, you can avoid the whole problem by keeping the take-down pin in the gun during reassembly and making sure not to be sloppy when lining up the guide rod and retaining notch on the underside of the barrel. This falls into the user-error category but I wanted to make you aware anyway since it can happen.
