Hey all, bought my XD-9 in early July and have put 300 rds. through it so far. I'm a new pistol shooter so I thought I'd get some input from others about their experience with XD's. So far I love it. The only problems I've had were jamming with remanufactured CHEAP ammo...duh right? What can I say...I'm a poor college student. Any factory ammo has been flawless.

I guess to start some conversation, what kind of mods are most common/most effective for XD's? I haven't been shooting long enough to be a really great shot with it, so I'll be putting many more rounds down-range before I mod, but I was thinking of upgrading the sights in the near future..any advice?

You made a fine choice- congratulations. I have the XD 45. My only problem is failure to feed Wolf ammo. Everything else has been perfect. So enjoy your XD for many years.

Great gun, I had one myself awhile back. I traded it for a Glock, but this was because I learned pistol shooting on the Glock, not because the XD was bad in any way. It was a very accurate and reliable gun. I will get another one day, either a 9mm or .45 tactical 5 inch model.

As for mods for the gun, the only thing I can think of would be night sights if you dont already have them.

I have two XD's and I really like them.

I have the XD .40 S&W subcompact and the XD .45 acp tactical. I have fired about 500 round through both. I like the accuracy and you can't get a better plastic handgun for the price, maybe a Glock, I have one of those also. However, I think the XD are built very solid and there a breeze to break down and clean. You can get tactical lights for them and .40 S&W subcompact has a lasermax internal laser available for it as well. You can also get night sights on them and I have them on both my handgun.

I think there very good cost effective self defense handguns.

:)

Nifty system, hefty pull required for the slide release, kinda blocky grip, but much, much better than any Glock.

Just not my taste, but an excellent platform nontheless; congrats on your purchase.

Great firearms. I'm nearing 10K rounds through my XD9 now without a hitch. The only additions I'd recommend are a good holster, more magazines, and lots more ammo! It's just dandy as is.

send it off to canyon creek custom. Have Rich redo the trigger and sights. A rich dettlehouser trigger is arguably better than the best glock trigger, and definately better than a bad 1911 trigger.

I agree with most here, the XD is a quality gun. The ones i've had in the past were ultra reliable and more accurate than I am.

They didn't fit me right and I sold them, but if they fit you, then you will be totally satisfied.

A reliable gun doesn't need any modifications. That said, the gun got slippery in my sweaty hands. I was considering having the grip stippled by Bowie and adding night sights since it was supposed to be a carry gun. But that was about it.

My girlfriend and I rented the 9 subcompact over the weekend. I liked it quite a bit, and I think I need one.

XD

I have the XD-9 SC. I love it. My wife can't handle the grip safety for some reason--she does have very small hands. Very reliable, quality gun in my opinion. I've actually never owned a Glock (only fired one once and it was a beat-up range rental gun) so I can't participate in the comparison.

I'm sure you'll be happy with your XD!

Very little wrong with XDs. Mainly just the finish rubbing off easily, which as I understand is no longer an issue on newer guns.

As for advice . . . You've only put 300 rnds through the gun? Get off the internet and go shoot the crap out of it!

I think the XD is the best thing going in polymer .45ACP. In 9mm and .40S&W, not so much.

My personal belief is that any pistol in 9 and .40 that offers interchangeable backstraps makes for a better overall sidearm than the XD if the ammunition capacity is equal or better.

The XD-45 has limited competition compared to the XD-9 and XD-40.

Service 9mm bi-tone, Sub Comp 9mm, and 45 Service. Happy with all of them. Really like the SC 9mm, scarey accurrate

I have an XD40 and several Glocks. I prefer the Glock, but i think that's only because i've owned Glocks far longer than i have the XD. The XD's trigger is a tad lighter than the Glocks. Both shoot about the same for me and i can't really tell much difference in the accuracy department. Both are very capable guns. Either will get the job done.

I've been looking at an XD45. My Glock 30 needs a new playmate.

Heard nice things about the .40 tactical, like they point very nice. Anyone have one? Any comments?

This is really a GREAT gun. Its affordable and reliable, the two most important things to me.

I ONLY sold my XD40 because I wanted to move to a Glock minded platform. I traded/sold a few to get this way.

Many complain they are top heavy, and they are a little bit, but you NEVER even notice it when you are shooting, so who cares.

I have the XD45 service model...it is excellent. as for the guy asking for the internal laser question...Lasermax is going to have one out in the next couple of months.

I have the XD 9 Sub-Compact for my carry weapon, and I really like it. I have put about 600 rounds through it without a hiccup.

My first pistol is a Taurus PT111 Millenium Pro 9mm; I was never able to shoot it as well as the XD.

A friend of mine typically uses a P7M13 or M10 as his carry weapon. When he flies, he uses a Glock (just in case something gets lost). He happened to try the XD 9 Service pistol, and bought it on the spot. He has started carrying it rather than the P7s when dress allows (the HKs being thinner) and in the process of trading his Glock collection for XDs. I think this speaks highly of the XD myself.

What do you know? This was my 3000th post!!!

Maybe I should buy an XD45 to celebrate. Thankfully, we weren't discussing Korths! ;)
