My friend also bought an XD9 while we were poor college students. It is a great gun worth twice what he paid for it. I have shot his a lot, and if I ever buy a plastic gun it is first on my list. The only accessories I think it needs are a good holster, spare mag, and lots of ammo. Night sights I have no use for, if I can't see my sights odds are good that I can't see my target (but others have different opinions). Lights and lazers are neat, but they are expensive, need special holsters, and are no substitute for good marksmanship.
None of these accessories are bad, just none of them are essential either. Shoot you gun a lot, get good with it, then buy whatever floats your boat.
