I've read the reports in the gun rags, and the XD45 sounds interesting . . . I handled one at Cabela's and it felt better in my hand than a G21, but after getting burned with a Kahr P9 based on gun rag fables, I figured I'd ask the members of this august assembly about THEIR experiences.

So . . . if you have an XD45, what variation is it, how reliable has it been, what ammunition does it like/not like, and (this is important) does it have any tendency to fall prey to "limp wrist syndrome?"

(I ask because my G17, ordinarily reliable, sometimes chokes if I let a lady shoot it. On the other hand, my G26 works fine with an unlocked-wrist, very loose two-finger grip.)

Does Springfield say anything about the use of +P ammo?

Thanks . . .

Mine has been 99% reliable or better. One jam in about 300 rds. No failures of any other kind. - 4" full size.

Haven't tried any +P ammo yet,but in 2000+ rounds in my XD45 5" has not had a single problem. No feeding or firing problems, nothing. My only regret is that I didn't buy the 4" model too! I have fired mine in all kinds of foul weather and it is extremely reliable IMHO. I've shot all different types of ammo from Winchester FMJ from wally world, to surplus .45 ammo, to very questionable reloads, to 117gr. Aguila IQ's. Never a hiccup. I LOVE my XD.

As for stovepipes, I couldn't get my XD to do that if I tried, even with my wimpy girlfriend at the helm. The last thing that I love about the XD pistols are that, at least for me, have a very natural draw. I can point it at an object quickly, then look through the sights and it's on target. Whatever I point it at, I hit. I'm no competition shooter, but my accuracy is practical and consistent with the XD.

My father purchaced the XD45 tactical, all black.......looks like a glock!!!
Fires reliably with any ammo .....bout 600 rounds of various ammo to be exact.
The gun has a tendency to shoot low, even at 10' away from the target!!!!
I personally dont like the gun, neither does he..... I dont want to brag but with my glock its so accurate, even with cheap winchester, can hit a 5" target 75m away. I couldn't hit a 5" target 10' away with the XD.
The gun at best would be ok if your going to have a fire fight in the 10'-20' range.
And hope like heck you dont shoot him in the foot!!! LOL

GLOCK RULES!

XD Rocks

My XD40 has been 100% after 1500 rounds. Unlike the XD basher, mine shoots POINT OF AIM.:D This pistol is awesome and I would not trade it for anything, did I mention I absolutely LOVE this pistol.:D I'd gladly put my XD up against a block....I mean Glock anytime.:p

Springfield XD45 Reliability?

This is not about Glocks, look at the title of the post. I really don't want to see another topic go from XD45, M&P, CZ, or something else to "I'm in love with my Glock!" Please don't start the Glock vs. XD45 or Glock vs. M&P war folks. Ilovemyglock, which .45ACP Glock do you own?

BTW, my XD45 has over 650 rounds through it with no FTF's or FTE's whatsoever. It will feed whatever I put into it.

Personal experience:
I've had my 5" Tactical XD-45 since February. I've put... hell, I don't know. A lot of rounds of every variety (mostly Wolf) through it, and it happily eats everything. Never had a jam of any sort. Took it kayaking, got sand in it, dunked it in saltwater, never a spot of corrosion.

In all honesty, it's a pretty boring gun. It's tougher than I am, shoots better than I do, and doesn't need any aftermarket stuff.

I own a 4 gen. model 22 .40 cal Glock, Im not really bashing the XD40 which has been around for a while, just the new 45 thats has been awarded "gun of the year" Maybe the shorter barreled version is more accurate than the tactical, but if you guys insist the XD45 is as accurate shooter that it is, I will tell my father to bring it back to the gun shop and see if it could be fixed....or returned.....it shoots like the barrel is bent!!
I have competed with a browning model 21 22cal. for years through the orignal sights, and shot just about every handgun made (my father in-law has a FFL licence.):) But the XD45 tactical is very dependable but shoots aweful.
Like i said it could be a design flaw...But it stinks when you get your hopes up, go to the range and the weapon shoots like a pig.

Any gun that "shoots like the barrel is bent" (as you claim) should already have been returned to the gun shop - either for repairs, or your money back. I don't care what brand it is.

I know of at least 5 people that have the XD45 Service or Tactical and I have seen them shoot at the range. It must be your handgun because my friends are way more accurate with their XD45's than I will ever be. I have no problems with the gun being accurate, it's me that is the problem!!

it shoots like the barrel is bent!!
What exactly does that mean?

The barrel bent thing is like you aim at the target ,got all 3 dots lined up perfect, got the trigger crept up,and shoot. And the damn bullet hits the ground!!!

They're absolutely terrible . .you should immediately ship yours to me and I'll give you $100 for your trouble. :)

I've got a 4-inch Service model . . . .it's had about 2852 rounds through it. (Give or take 2 rounds). It is 100% absolutely positively boring in that it never jams, fails to fire and rarely misses the target. The only knock I can think of is that it absolutely hates LSWC ammo.

I shoot tons of 200 Gr. LSWC ammo in my 1911's and when I tried to use it in the XD45 it would digest maybe 100 rounds and then start jamming on every 5th-8th round. I tried about everything I could think of reloading wise and was never able to get it to run more than 100 rounds without a jam of some sort. My best was 99 rounds. I suspect that the cause was small bits of lead off of the shoulder of the SWC getting shaved off and eventually building up UNDER the feed ramp and lifting it up just enough to cause feeding problem. I finally just switched over to 200 gr HP loads and it's absolutely boring to shoot. (about 1900 of the 2852 have been those rounds with 300 rounds being 230 FMJ Hardball)

The next tactical I see I'm going to buy, and I'm really hoping to run into a "compact".

Have a good one,
Dave

If I were you, I would check the muzzle closely for dings. I have never shot any handgun that was as inaccurate as you describe, unless someone had trouble with trigger control and anticipation.

Good Luck!

Reliable - yes. Accurate - not so much...

My Tactical was a terrible shooter and had to go back to Springfield. They recrowned the barrel and it still was less than what I consider to be accurate. Sold it...

Who would have thought someone with a screen name "ILOVEMYGLOCK" would be posting about how terrible the XD45 is

It is a very nice pistol, I own the 4" version, I have never had any problems with it, and it is very accurate (In competent hands)

I really like mine. Has been extremely reliable and very accurate in my hands.

I have an XD-40 (Service model). My buddy has an XD-45 (also service model). We've both run at least 800 rounds through each (probably closer to 1k) and as far as I know neither of us has had a single problem with our XD.

I have an XD40 Service with about 1500 rds through it. One or two hiccups due to the owner's mistakes, cured by slap and rack. I may sell it...to get an XD45C for carry.

Somehow I think accuracy has more to do with whoever is actually shooting it. Gimme a break with the "And the damn bullet hits the ground!!!" I am done posting on this one. The Glock lovers have united once again to shout from the mountain tops how perfect their Glocks are and how inferior any other semi-auto is!

I rented a 4" xd 45 at the range a few weeks back and instantly loved it. I shot it as well as i shoot my G17. And I shoot my G17 pretty decently. I got a 5" on the way :)

I love Glocks, but the XD's seem to be just as good (maybe even better on the 45 side of things).

Thanks. By the way, I like the way my G36 shoots, it's a very nice subcompact semi-auto. It is super easy to conceal. However, it is very finicky about the type of ammo it likes. My XD45 has eaten all of my hand loads with no problems. The G36 will jam on every other round. I want my gun to BAM! when I squeeze the trigger. Most likely it will be sold when it comes back from Glock.

My two have been great!

I own the XD .45 Tactical and the 4 inch service model. I need to keep better track of how many rounds. But they are both into the thousands, the service model is approaching 3000. I have never had a FTF, FTE, jam or hiccup of any kind. They love all kinds of ammo. I have fired about 50 165gr +P Power-Balls with no problem. They are rated for +P ammo. I honestly can say I have not had one problem. I think you would really enjoy owning one. To the gentleman who's gun fires like it has a bent barrel-you got a lemon! Make Springfield take care of it.

The Best to You and Yours!

Frank
