SR9C rear sight problem

My SR9c is shooting very high so I tried to adjust the elevation downward. The rear sight elevation screw bottoms out before the sight is fully compressed leaving about a 16th or more of travel. I contacted Ruger's CS about getting a shorter screw and they don't make one shorter than what I have. They are sending me a new rear sight and I hope that it's an improvement over what I currently have otherwise it's a trip to a gunsmith. Anyone out there have a similar problem with their elevation on the SR9c?

No problems with my 3 year old SR9c. It shoots right to point of aim with the sights right as they came from the factory
