For the past month or so, I have been looking for the right deal on an AR15...I narrowed it down to a flat top 16" Bushmaster and RRA. But the past week or so has brought some questions since a few people have started threads asking about which brand is the best and such, and multiple dealers have been saying that their favorite is Stag.

My question is, what is so great about Stag, and is it really better than a Bushy or an RRA?

Thanks guys

I have an AR built on a stag lower, and its been fine.

I think a lot of people like them because you can get close to RRA or Bushmaster quality (arguably) for a little less money. I read, but can't confirm, that the new S&W ARs are basically rebadged Stags, or at least get stuff from the same suppliers.

I've had mine for about a month now. I haven't seen any problems and have about 1000 rounds through it. Never shot a Bushy or RRA so I can't compare. I may be taking the Pat Rogers "Tactical Carbine Operator" course with it next year. I guess that will be the big test. I'm going to get another for my son finished up just after the first of the year so I will have a backup if I need it.

Stag's parent company CMT makes some parts for most if not all of the US military M16 and M4 rifles. That should tell you something.

RRA is also made by CMT IIRC so really it's the same thing with a different logo.

cmt builds most of rra and stag , rra use's wilson barrels i don't know what barrels stag use's both are better than bushmaster (which is a good gun too)

We're the biggest Stag dealer in Utah.

I'm a fan of the guns. Their quality is consistently excellent. Their service is great, and they have a very good warranty. We even use them for the base of our custom build guns now.

The other night I was taking some different ARs apart. I looked at the Stag bolt carrier compared to a DPMS and Bushmaster carrier. The Stag's carrier key was properly staked, and was obviously done better than the DPMS and the Bushy. Those looked like minor little marks that barely touched the nut, wheras the Stag was big deep lines. Little things like that count.

Stag is CMT's house brand. CMT is one of the biggest manufacturers of AR receivers in the business. RRA and many of Colts parts are from CMT.

CMT developed a left hand eject AR, and tried to sell it to Colt. Colt said that there was no demand for it. That's how Stag came about.

I'm going to be posting prices over in the group buy forum tonight for a Stag buy if you're interested. Prices will be extremely competitive.

I've got a frankengun with a CMT upper ona stag lower. Works nicely.

Thanks for all of the good input guys!

Correia,

Where can I find some pictures of these:

2L Carbine $800
4H Rifle (detachable carry handle) $825

Saying im a beginner with AR's would be an overstatment, so I am not sure what those are.

Thanks in advance guys.

Stag's are great guns, at very competive prices.

Wish I could get in on the group buy, but being Christmas and birthday season, it's a no go.

Steve

Yeah, I have been looking at that thread too, the "4H" confused me.

Thanks alot Correia for all of your help...Did you say I have until Dec 15 to decide?
