This load seems to be the best for bear defense, if you are limited to .45 ACP while you are looking for a .41 or .44 magnum or 10mm to carry in the woods. If it's really enough of an issue for you to worry about, it's enough of an issue that you should carry enough gun.

I recall an article about a man who stopped a grizzly with one shot from a 9X19mm. Seems the bullet lodged in the one perfect spot in the shoulder to jam it up and prevent movement of the foreleg, thus the bear's face hit the ground and he skidded like in the cartoons. This doesn't make the 9X19mm a bear round, and most of us can't depend on miracles to save us. A .44Mag with 300 gr hard cast bullets would be a minimum if you're going to depend on a handgun to save your bacon. The BFR in .45/70 seems like a good choice.

Well I recentley picke up a marlin 1895 in .450 marlin so Im not really in any need for a bigger bear gun. My .450 just isnt acceptable for daily cary. I carry it when out in the woods and what not. I just really like my 1911 and want to find a somewhat acceptable load for it that I could use if I get in a jam in town here. Big animals walk around just like the people do. Bears aren't as common in town but there are occasinal black bears spotted the grizzlies stay in the woods for the most part, as for the moose I see them like every other day in town. Im confident I can knock a moose down with my .45 same with a black bear some people actually hunt them with spears so that makes me feel much better.
