I've been reading about the CZ Rami and wonder what the dimensional differences (including weight) are between it and the excellent but discontinued Star Firestar. Any have info?

RAMI has more rounds, DA operation, current production, so parts and mags are going to be available for a while. Star and Interarms are long gone, so while I like the SA Firestar, fixing a broken one might involve Numrichs and some arcane incantations. Go RAMI.

The RAMI is definately lighter with its alloy frame versus the firestars steel frame. A friend of mine still carries his .40 firestar so when I get my RAMI 9mm I will do a direct comparison as to size. I think the firestar weighs in the 32 oz. range but I could be wrong, RAMI comes in around 25oz......tom

There is, however, a Star Firestar Plus, which has an alloy frame. And that might be a better comparison. (My steel version, mentioned below, felt more like 48 ozs!)

the Firestar Plus is single action, double-stack, with up to 13 rounds. (10 rounds standard). And much less heavy than the Steel-framed Star. Idon't remember the weight, right offhand, but probably much closer to the RAMI. There is a website that has all this info, but I couldn't find it. Have the link on a different computer.

I haven't handled a RAMI, yet, but I suspect the RAMI "points" better than the Star... (as the RAMI is based on the 75B model).

I have a Star Firestar Plus, and its a nice little gun. About the same size as the Kel-Tec P-11, but a bit heavier. It replaced my Kel-Tec. The Star Firestar Plus was replaced, in turn, by a CZ-75B Compact. (Also 13 [or 14] rounds, with the right mags.)

I also had a Star Firestar (steel) in .40. Excellent gun, very accurate, with a superb trigger. But, it was NOT a good carry weapon; too darned heavy! It literally drug my trousers down!

The joke among my friends was that if was carrying the Star (steel) and I missed the bad guy, all I had to do was drop the gun on his foot: he'd be out of action for a long time.

Firestar vs Rami

I have been banding about acquiring a firestar PLUS in the near future. They are lightwieght, double stacks with a grip that reminds me of a more ergonomic SW 6000 series.

The Rami is a stocky, squat little bugger, hefty feel and short barrel balance. To be honest, I was not really impressed with its feel off hand.

But they are different guns, apples to oranges I think. The Rami is better then the Bersa/Firestorm 9mm/.40sw twins, yet maybe not as nice as a glock26. The Firestar is nice, yet a single stack S&W 4000 series is probably a better investment.
