Well it's been 19 weeks and the STI 1911 9mm I ordered from their Custom Shop has arrived! It was delivered to my FFL exactly on the day promised. What I ordered was an STI Trojan 9mm with just a few changes. First I had the carbon fiber trigger changed to aluminum. Then to clean up the look I had them leave off the STI logo port side, no front serrations, and no Trojan engraved on the nonport side. I had them install the fiber optic front sight and the STI adjustable rear sight. As soon as I got it home I stripped off the thin wood grips and installed Hogue Kingwood stippled grips.
A close look revealed just how good STI's quality is, the barrel ramp was a mirror finish, the slide / frame fit was incredible, as was the barrel and bushing. Not a mark on it, it came in exactly as I wanted, just a plain 1911, just amazing. It cost more than a stock Trojan but I did not want a stock Trojan. Cost was comparable to a Les Baer Premier II, so you do the math.
Sunday the 26th I ran it thru its paces, 259 rounds to be exact. We went to the Bluegrass Sportsmans League pistol pits south of Lexington KY. In the pits you may draw and fire without restrictions, IPSC style. I have included 2 photos of targets one being a double tap on a well used IPSC target, and the other is the first 10+1 (11) rounds down range, both at 12 yards. The trigger is great, sights are easy to read, minimal recoil, and it shoots like a dream. My Glock G34 may be retired, yeah it's retired. Not a single malfunction or misfire, STIs are made to run.
