Last Friday, I went out to the Garland Public Shooting Range to punch some paper. I saw one of the weirdest sights I've ever seen on a gun range (tactical SWAT ninja SEALs excluded)

There was a guy shooting a scoped, bipod equipped Ruger Charger at the THREE YARD station. Yep, he was shooting off the bench at a target nine feet away.

A friend of mine was already there and said the guy had been shooting for over an hour.

No, I did not get close enough to see what his groups looked like. :D

The gentleman has vision problems and can only see at short range; I guess

I've seen that range get pretty crowded. Did he have better lane choices?

Funny - at the local range I see lots of guys with really high-dollar tacticool rifles with nice optics, good rested position, etc - and for some reason they love shooting 25yds. Must be scared what will happen to their groups out past that range...

If I took my Mosin with the bayo attached out to the 9 vrd lane I could have all the holes grouped together on the X and not have my shoulder hurt from firing it and my ammo would last longer :p

He was probably trying to sight the scope in and has never done it B4 and could realy use one of the Laser bore sighting tools like this http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/t...abelas/en/common/search/search-box.jsp.form23

If you think that is strange what about this ?

Years ago at a outdoor pay range run by the conservation Dept. I had a Older gentleman , a Women "His adult daughter" and two boys say ages 8-10 or so show up in the next booth to shoot the Kids BB rifle . This was at a range that the closest target distance was 25 yards and they must have never been to a range before because it was packed with Cannons going off all around them and the old guy didn't even think to bring ear protection for anyone !

I happen to have a couple of spare muffs in my range bag I let them use but it left the two adults unprotected .

"3-yard-station?" So your range supports club and sword practice?

If you carry a concealed firearm close range (arms length to three yards) shooting should be something you are proficient in.

-and-

Not everyone likes 1,000,000 yard slow fire bullseye shooting.

(yawn)

I have a tacticool rifle with optics that I shoot at the 25yd. Granted I shoot controlled pairs while standing =)

I never shoot anything from the bench rest unless I'm at a range which forces me to do so. And I don't go to that range unless I can't make it to another. Bench rest shooting, to me, is the most worthless form of shooting there is.

Strangest thing? 3 guys at a table, each with junk AR-15's. Only 1 of them was working, and it had trigger problems. Each of them had an EXPENSIVE (looked like an EoTech) sight on their gun. At the break, they were talking about their accuracy (which was nothing to write home about; my Saiga .223 was better). Can we say "mall ninjas"? You can't buy common sense or skill, but you can at least buy a good gun. Unfortunately, they lacked the former, and as a result they lacked the latter.

My father and I were shooting on a 100-yard range carved into the side of a mountain. While we were shooting 3 ruffed grouse wandered out of the woods on the left and walked across in front of the targets to the woods on the right. I don't recall them even glancing our way.

No, we didn't shoot them.

My favorite thing I ever saw was 3 hill billy type guys walk up to the pistol range station (25yd) and they talked among themselves for about 5 seconds, loaded their shot gun and took turns pumping shells out pretty fast at nothing particular down range. They were gone by the time the next cease fire came to place fresh targets out.
