Strongest .40 Pistol?

Undoubtedly.... the Hi Point. When I shoot double charged 40 SW loads, I want the best pot metal money can buy protecting my hands.

On a more serious note, why do some of you consider the HK to be the strongest. Is it something to do with the lockup, barrel thickness, etc?

I have always felt that the polymer framed guns would offer less protection and from the KB pics I have viewed, the polymer frame almost always gave out.

With that, I would say the aluminum and steel framed guns should withstand a KB a little better.

Giggles???

--Just for ****s & giggles... HK P7M10-- Why would anyone giggle at an HK P7 M10? Of all the pistols/cartridges I've ever shot, the M10 in .40 is absolutely my favorite. For physical reasons I'll never pull the trigger on anything with more recoil than a Daisey Red Ridder again, so my entire gun collection is now in other hands- except for the M10.

Heavy, ugly and expensive, Yes! But everything else I've seen represents compromise on some level. I'll choose accuracy, safety, reliability and durability every time.

HK's were designed for +p+ ammo. That would be my vote for strongest .40(USP, p2000, p30, any of them).

Maybe in the slide

Quote: Is the P229 stronger than the P226?

Why would that be?

First, if they're talking about an all steel SS model, then that would be the strongest up the road of long continued use IMO, as compared to ones with aluminium frames and SS slides, etc.

Hmmm, maybe because the P226 was built as a 9mm, then up the road, they made a new slide, barrel and mags as an additional feature of that full size format Sig..

Whereas, they designed the P229 with the shorter, stockier slide (that's possibly why) and gun in general, around the 40cal, then 357 sig.

I have shot both but, from a ccw perspective, the P229 is better, being smaller, and very forgiving/docile, like the P226 40cal, in recoil.

IWI Jericho (Baby D'Eagle) is more than stout enough for the.40. Accurate, reliable, and good looking too:D

First choice ..... All-steel 229

Second Choice ..... 4006

Third Choice ..... 229

Fourth Choice ..... 4003 (the alloyed version of the 4006)

I own a SIG 229 (it's my overall favorite pistol). As others have said it tames the infamous .40 "snap" very nicely and is built like a tank. Makes it a tad heavy for carry but i don't mind because it gets along so well with me in terms of shooting.

I also own a CZ-75 in .40 S&W. Also built like a tank and is also an extremely accurate pistol. I find it a bit bulky and long for concealed carry so it mostly gets to be a range queen but it's seen a good number of rounds and I suspect it'll be with me for the rest of my life.

Springfield XD-40. Not quite as good at taming the "snap" as the other two, but a damn solid and reliable pistol. Yeah it's "tupperware" but it sure is a lot lighter to carry. I have an older model with the crappy finish on the slide and someday I suppose I'll get it re-finished but in the meanwhile WeaponShield CLP keeps the rust off.

I do not own an M&P, but have inspected one closely and shot it as well. Seems like a good gun with good ergonomics. I'm not sure it would have the lifespan of the SIG or the CZ, but I bet it would have a VERY long lifespan of it's own.

I really would recommend looking at the Steyr M40-A1. It was designed and built from the ground up for the .40S&W cartridge and the 9mm was then adapted. I own a M40-A1 and I love it. It's my daily carry and I'm thinking of picking up another. CDNN has an absolute STEAL OF A PRICE right now on them. I've got a Springfield XD-SC in .40S&W as well...and a Beretta 96...and a Beretta CX4 Storm in .40S&W.

I'd get they Steyr. It'll be one of the best decisions you'll have ever made. Check it out over at steyrclub.com if you're wanting more info. I know most of those guys are on here as well.
