say I wanted to send 2 handguns to a gunsmith for work... can I put them in one box and ship the regular, legal UPS/FEDEX way? Or do they have to be shipped separately?
Yeah, well, I sent just ONE back to Ruger today and the FedEx handlers at Kinko's just about wet their pants.
I don't reckon they see many guys like me. They were very disturbed that someone would even bring into their store a packaged, unloaded, legally owned firearm and OMG it's a handgun
They didn't have a clue that it was legal to ship even one to the manufacturer.
Of course.... with a name like Kinko's..... oh, never mind....:banghead:
The FedEx web site has a standard form and quiz you are supposed to take and bring in with you when you ship a gun. The employees at the Kino's Fedex are supposed to know all that. When I shipped guns to two manufacturers, I had not done that, but had all the right ID and other requirements, so I was ok. (My CHP was a major item in keeping them happy.)
Just goes to show the lack of knowledge of the counter employees, CHP has nothing at all to do with the legality of shipping, except maybe to show that you are legal to own the guns in the first place.
Never said that it's "Federal" law but when you ship via UPS,at least, there a spot on the shipping document that asks what your shipping and if you tell them it's not a pistol and it gets lost you'll be SOL when you try to file an insurance claim. then the fun starts. I used the word "declare" as in tell them what in the box not as a legal term. I've shipped more than my share of firearms back to the factory, gunsmiths etc
and have never had any problems doing so and Ma is not exactly gun owner friendly.
I shipped handguns to either their the manufacturer or a gunsmith a number of times. Several time I've packed a couple of guns in one package.
I've always used FedEx and have had no problems. I take the package down to the local FedEx-Kinko office, tell the clerk it's a gun, and send it overnight insured for fully value. Never had the slightest difficulty, nor has anyone ever batted an eye. And this is in the San Francisco Bay Area.
