many of you have seen ads in shotgun news for the su-press-on drop in auto safety sear. I have seen talk all over the place about if its legal or not but never with a clear answer, some say its legal to own a DIAS as long as you dont own the weapon it is intended for, that however is not the case.

Here is a direct copy and paste of the email i received from the ATF

The AR15 drop in auto sear is a part designed and intended for use in
converting a semiautomatic firearm into a machinegun. The AR15 drop in
auto sear is classified as a machinegun and can only be imported for or
by law enforcement or licensed/registered/SOT dealers, manufacturers and
importers for demonstration to law enforcement.

You cannot import and register a machinegun. Possession of an
unregistered machinegun under Federal law, penalties are severe for this
type of Federal Firearms laws violation. That is why the ad is unclear.
Yes, it is a bad idea.

Obvious answer anyways. Add that to the list of things not to buy if you are looking to keep you bung hole tight as a snare drum :uhoh:

Sounds like they are not in this country as they are talking about importing the part.

Did you actually expect BATFE to say it would be OK to have one of those?

Please do not forget that these are the same folks that will charge you for having a full auto weapon when your favorite semi-auto starts to randomly double tap at the range due to an improperly installed trigger conversion, such as a TAPCO FCG in a Saiga rifle, or a worn factory component. :what:

More than one person has opined that it's probably BATF running the ad themselves to reel in the suckers.
