So I went out for opening deer weekend with high hopes but the weather decided to throw a curveball. It was 70 degrees and 40 mph winds...Rather disappointing for deer hunting. I hunted all day Saturday and did not even see a single deer which is uncommon where I hunt. I tried again Sunday with 25 mph winds and 60 degrees, a little better but not by much. I hunted all day and saw a few in the distance but nothing that could be cleanly taken. By this point I was starting to loose hope that I would get anything. I was about to head to the truck but decided to make my way to a favorite stand around 4pm (gets dark at 5). I was about 10 yards from my stand and a doe popped up out of the grass and ran about 20 yards, stopped and turned broadside looking at me.:what: I took aim and made a perfect high shoulder shot taking out both lungs and the deer only made it 10 yards before expiring. I used factory Federal Powershok 150 gr for 308 and got a complete pass through with nice expansion. I was so happy to have some venison to fill the freezer. This nice doe should make some tasty meals. Hope everyone else out there deer hunting gets to fill their freezers as well.
